Did anyone's doctor recommend benadryl for a bad cough and cold?
I never heard this before, but my son is really suffering. The doctor checked him out and said it wasn't the croup, but it sounds an awful lot like the croup, and several online sites say NOT to give benadryl for the croup. Does anyone know what the deal is?

I only give benadryl when DD has an allergic reaction.

Could the doctor be thinking that it's allergies? Theyve started already..Im starting to feel it and had to put the AC back on to filter the air..

YES! and it works great! My ped said this the last time he had a cough for a few days. It just dried it up and he slept through the night that he really needed. Now if his allergies get bad I give it to him and it helps tremendously.

My Dr does not recommend Benadryl. She only will recommend it topically for an allergic rash. If you think that it is the croup, as far as I know from when DS had it, the only thing to help is a steroid with an anti-inflammatory.

I was told none of that stuff ever--no cold meds--nothing.
Benadryl I was told is for emergency allergic reactions.
