we had our dog just about 2 years before I got preggo. Wouldnt have changed it. I think the dog is much harder to handle than the baby lol (I have a Jack Russel, so maybe thats why). I think it helps with sort of learning to share care-taking responsibilities though

I'd say yes and no. in some ways it did because our lifestyle had to change when we got our puppy. Had to run home after work, get her on a schedule as far as bedtime, going out, etc.
Now that I have DS though, I can see how the 2 are very different.

I am so happy we got our dog before we had DS!
We had our dog since he was 8 weeks old. We trained him, woke up constantly in the middle of the night to let him out to do his business, Bathe him, feed him take him for walks.
We take our dog to our friends houses when we go, to our inlaws, I bring him to work with me. He goes everywhere.
When we go on vacation we leave him at our inlaws for the week, which we could also do with DS.
I think it 100% prepared us for our DS. Yes they have different needs, but I think it taught us responsibility on how to care for another life.
