I think you did the right thing. Teens wouldn't listen to some random stranger yelling at them. At least the police can speak with them about safety and teach them a lesson. I don't think the police would scare them either as PP said. They're teens. They'd listen to the cops.
Exactly this. You did the right thing. Hopefully they learned their lesson. They would never have listened to you.

I would have yelled at the kids. I actually think at that age they are still afraid of adults. 15/16 not so much. But I also owned a store that was very popular with that age group and I had to yell at kids all the time in a way that got them to listen without thinking I'm just some b*tchy old lady giving them grief!
BTW I am a cop caller about a lot of things thou so I am a firm believer that if you think someone might be in danger, better safe than sorry.
