did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
ok so we are very team today i went for the 1hr. glucose. the doctor comes in and says that hes going to look for the heartbeat but that this is the hardest appt to find it with the doppler since the baby is moving all around from the sugar drink. he puts the doppler up to my belly and says "there she is." and then follows up with "do you know what you're having?" we say no.
DH didnt even catch this at the time of the conversation but when i brought it up to him later he seems to think the doctor slipped and covered it up very well. i like to believe that the doctor just uses he and she interchangeably. maybe im in denial cause i very much love team .
so i guess im going to believe what i want to believe either way and if it is a girl i'll ask the doctor after the fact.
so the only question i really have is - is the gender in the chart to begin with?? ive only seen the ob 3 or 4 times and only once since the level 2 so if it IS in the chart then maybe it really was a slip. if its not in the chart then im more likely the think it was random.
thoughts??

Re: did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
I bet it was just a personal pronoun slip up.
Many people hate hearing "it" when referring to the baby, and it's just second nature to call it a he or she.
When I had my fetal echo, the pediatric cardiologist even said "if I say he or she, please don't think anything of it...I just really hate saying IT when referring to a baby."
ETA: I have been told several times, the gender is NOT in my chart at all to ensure that no one makes a slip up.

Re: did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
I don't think it's in my chart because every visit my OB asks if we know the gender. I refer to the baby as "he" a lot, and our families think I know the gender because of it. I think it's just natural to say he or she instead of it. I wouldn't think anything of it.

did you have a sono today? cuz im pretty sure they dont even write down the sex in your chart. so unless he just saw the babys goods, i dont think it was an actual slip.

Re: did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
Going to the same OB as you, he does not know what the baby is. I actually asked to him "Don't you write it in your charts?" He told me no because it's not really of their concern and for things just like that.
If it is a girl, it will probably be a coincidence. He probably just used the wrong pronoun.

Re: did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
My OB asks me at every visit (and I've been going weekly for a month) if we know what we're having. He actually sorta scolded me when we were there for our Level II and told him we found out! He never remembers! So I feel like it was probably just a case of your OB not wanting to say "it," which I can totally understand.
I've also heard they don't write the gender in the chart - regardless of whether the parents know or not.

thanks ladies. im still going to believe he didnt slip and just said whichever came to mind. i was going to believe that anyway but its good to know that the info is likely not in the chart to begin with.

I dont think he slipped, I would have taken she as the heartbeat, not the baby...like there she is...IDK...it can go either way...

Nah.....
I think he just meant "she" as in the heartbeat not as in the baby!

Re: did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
Many times the DRs don't even know the gender...I don't believe it's in the chart to be honest....so I think it was just the pronoun he used

ITA with this. I usually hear "he" when speaking about the baby. When I was prego with DS and we were team green I just said he. I didn't want to refer to him as "it"

Re: did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
alot of doctors choose not to look at it in the chart -so it could just be the pronoun he uses the most

Re: did the Dr. slip and tell me the gender?
My previous obgyn did not put it in the chart.
Your Dr may just use those words interchangeably , like you said.

I went to my anatomy scan at LIJ then saw my doctor a week later and she didn't know the sex. When I kept referring to our baby as a boy she then asked. She mentioned they don't write it down in the notes they send over.

yes, my dr. told me that as well... they don't keep the gender anywhere in the chart, only that the organs are "normal."
the techs used he/she interchangeably-i think actually "she" more than "he" and DC turned out to be a boy!
