While it is unbearbaly heartbreaking to have to see, it is THE REALITY of what happened. I cannot imagine if it were my child, but I dont think it is too graphic and I think it really evokes emotion. Maybe it should serve as a wakeup call to "look what we are doing to one another, our children"

Completely agree.
Any picture is going to be tragic and horrific. There is a picture in slide shows of a grown man looking up at the sky and crying in anguish. Another powerful image.
But this child represents the innocence of all who were there that day. His face represents everyone's fear. This face will be like the little naked girl in the pictures from Vietnam running away from napalm. There are still articles written about her following up on her story.
This was a tragedy. Time is capturing that. After every disaster we are inundated with pictures that graphically represent that.
This is our fuckked up world. No picture on a magazine can fix it or change that. That child could have been my son. The horrible reality is any public and joyful event we go to can result in tragedy now.

I'm a little conflicted but I think the whole point is to really shock and cause a raw visceral reaction to the viewer. They want us to be shocked, disgusted, scared, angry, and react. Something like this should not be sanitized IMO. It's hard to look at but that's the point, we need to see what our world is becoming.
This is actually tamer to me than the infamous picture that came the day after the Oklahoma City bombing where the firefighter was carrying the dying 1 year old girl Baylee Almon.

I don't think it's too far. CNN replaying the bombing over and over and over again was way worse than this to me. It's heartbreaking, but it's meant to shock the senses.

Exactly.
Is it a terrible, heartbreaking image? Of course. But it's reality. There are many horrifying images of that day - the one that stands out the most is of a man in a wheelchair missing his leg below his knee with the exception of the bone hanging out.
