Did you DH go with you to your first OBGYN appt?

I ask this b/c since we did IVF, I have been followed very closely by the RE, now I am being turned over to my OB and I was wondering if my DH should come to that appt?

Also, what do they do at that first appt?

yes he did. He really hasnt since, but the first one he did, he wanted to know what was going to be happening etc.

Yes. It was the first time we got to see the baby! i was a little over 8 wks - they took blood, weighed me, talked about medical history and did a sono - it was amazing! But, everyone's first visit is at a different time and entails different things.

No, DH only comes for the sono appointments.

DH didn't come to my 1st visit, but he came to my 2nd (but only because we knew there was going to be a sonogram and he would see the baby)

eta: at the first they did a transvaginal sono, but didn't really see anything but a dot... and they did bloodwork.

yes. mine did a transvaginal u/s, so we both got to see the heartbeat at 7 weeks, blood, urine and pap

Yes, he came to the first and he is coming to the next one, the ultrascreen. His schedule can be crazy but he wants to try and be there for all!

DH came with me to the 1st visit. Mostly because we had questions and wanted to meet the doctor.

He only came to that one and the sonos since.

Yes, he did.

I had a m/c back in June. DH didn't come to the first appointment and missed seeing the litttle nug. With this pregnancy we wanted to both be there for the first look.

yes. He comes to all of them...he is very interested in all the details of the nugget. In hindsight I would have warned him about:
pelvic exams
pap smears (he actually said "what the heck are the shoe horns for?")
and the internal sono speculum & condom.

It was an interesting visit to say the least

He came to all of the RE appts. (the three after the BFP) but he did not come to the first OB appt as it was only a week after the last RE appt.

The next appt. he came to was the Level II.

My DH is in sales and travels for business so I'd rather have him save the time off/away from the office for after the babies are born. Plus, my OB's office is quite a hike, in the opposite direction, from his office.

ETA: Oh, yeah, if he's never been in the room for an internal sono or a cervix check definitely warn him and have him stand up near your head or temporarily leave the room. If they are not expecting it most guys are a bit when it happens.

Yes, every doc is different but because my situation is probably the most similar to yours...

First visit...
met with new doc (high risk)
went over what to do, eat, etc.
risks of multiples pregnancy, regular pregnancy, pregnancy over 35 yrs old.
info on different types of tests
breast exam
height/weight
bloodpressure
they may have taken blood??
internal sono- sono at every appt. to check heartbeats
urine
cervix check

Every visit...
urine sample
weight
bloodpressure
sono (at least a quick one to check twin heartbeats) every so often it is a growth sono, after 12 weeks they were all external
cervix check

When I get a growth sono they are done in the same office. Considering most doctors want you to have more of them with multiples, it's so much more convenient if the machine is in the office. My OB's office has a dedicated radiologist on staff to interpret the growth sonos.

He came to the first sonos for both pregnancies. He skipped the 2nd level sonogram for Joseph.

I was upset that he missed it since it was the bigger of the sonograms. Afterwards I said something about the possibility of getting bad news at any appointment that he never forgot. He asked me before every appointment if I wanted him to go from that point forward.

For me (every doctor does things differently), first appointment was blood, pee in a cup & then internal sonogram where you see the heartbeats for the first time.

He came with me to my RE visits until she turned me over to the OB. Then he came with me to the OB for the first visit because they said they would be doing a sono for the status in their office and I was 8 weeks at that point when they normally do one (but I was going to a new OB, so they had no blood work or any history on me, so I got a full work up while I was there with pap and blood, rather than just going off my RE info they sent over). He has not gone with me since, but has gone to the other sono appointments.

PS After reading Theresa's post, I wanted to add that after they did the sono, they told DH he could wait outside that way he wouldn't feel awkward in there during the breast exam and the pap and everything, especially since the new doc was a guy. This was best since I warned him at the RE that it would be an internal sono and he still looked a little put off by it.

I am being followed by an RE, even though I did not end up having treatments (crazy story there). DH has been to every appointment but I am not sure if we will feel the need to have him come to my first OB appointment. By that time, we will have had at least 3 sonograms but may not have already seen a heartbeat. I do want DH to meet my OB/GYN soon, though. I selected this OB/GYN after a lot of research and DH has heard a lot about him.

Not the first but for every appt after, so far. He insists and wants to make sure he gets information from the doc first hand. He asks questions about what I'm eating, my sleeping habits, what to expect next, etc. So funny.

So far he's been to all my appts with me. He was going to skip this week's appt but now he wants to come because he doesn't want me driving home alone during rush hour in the rain.
