Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

While house hunting ...

When you first saw your house, did you just KNOW it was right?

Did you both LOVE the house (or see the potential in it)? Or did one of you LOVE it and the other was OK with it?

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

We actually felt this way about several houses. Unfortunately our buyers jerked us around a lot so we lost atleast 3 houses that we loved. I do however love the house we are in now!

YES...After seeing lots and lots of crap I just knew that this was it. It was solid and had everything that we wanted. The first time I saw it I went with my mom and I was blown away. I couldn't stop thinking about it and told my DH that we needed to go back ASAP!

This was the first and only house that we put an offer onChat Icon

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

We saw over 20 houses. This house was the only one that I could picture our furniture in. I actually stood there saying "we could put our couch there and our wall unit on that wall" -- that's pretty much when we knew it was the right one.

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

Well my DH saw more potential then I did at first. He liked it more then I did, but in the end, we moved into a great neighborhood with great neighbors. The house is coming along, but we have a long way to go. Just when we think we are catching a break and then something else goes wrong. Welcome to the world of owning a home! I think there is a potential in a lot of homes. We saw about 75 houses before finding this one. It's a long process, but worth it in the end. GL in your search! Chat Icon

We looked at possibly a dozen houses in Central FL before we bought this one. DH actually picked this one out when he came down by himself and he liked the set up of the house where the rooms are located. I must say he did pick a winner because I fell in love with it too.

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

As crazy as it sounds, when I saw it online, I just KNEW this was my house, but I kept that to myself since I didn't want to be disappointed. When we walked in, we both totally saw the potential and loved it. I don't know if I, personally, could have bought a house that one of us was just ok with. It was important to me that we both loved it or else I'd always feel a little weird about it.

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

No. It's going to be different for everyone.

We got our hearts set on a house a few blocks away from the house we actually wound up buying. There were major problems during the inspection and we were crushed.

After that, we learned not to let our emotions lead us and when we saw our home, we went about it better. Talked it over, took measurements, pictures, multiple viewings with people.

When the inspection came out mostly clean, that's when we really believed that it might actually become our house.

It didn't take long to figure out that we had made a great decision. We're still very happy with our home. Chat Icon

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

Yes. We had been looking for about six months and saw a few we liked, but nothing we loved.
As soon as we pulled up to the house...DH and I looked at each other and said - This could really be the one.

We were lucky that there was nothing wrong with it inspection wise - we may have paid a little too much cuz we didn't barter on the price really, but that was at the height of the market and we were more afraid of not getting it at all.

But, we love our home even more now that it's "ours".

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

We drove past our house over and over, and i HATED the front windows so i wouldn't call to make appt.
then, we drove past during a snowy cruddy day and there was an open-house. i walked in and saw it had so much space... much more than anything that we saw. It stunk of musty smoke, there was film on every wall of tobacco.
we saw through all that though.

my house has been worked on and loved since we bought it.

We made an offer then and there at the open-house (we were the only people at the open-house that day).

We knew with both houses we bid on. Immediately!!

We went to contract on one but things weren't working out right so we backed out. Thank goodness we did.

And the house we are in now as soon as we walked in we both knew. What really helped is that we didn't have to do a thing.

I knew when I saw it online that I HAD to go see it that night. We did, and it was the first house that we BOTH really liked.

YES!!!!

It was the absolute WORST house I sawChat Icon
It was absolutely gross and looked like you needed a tetnus shot just to walk inChat Icon

We got it for A LOT less than what the same style house sells for, even in the current market.

I wanted a "gut-job" so we could make it our own.

DH wasn't as picky in his choice so he let me take the lead on the house.

My contractor was there hours after closingChat Icon

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

Sorta.....we looked at sooooooooooo many homes over the past year, but in the end we went back to the same floor plan we loved and in the area we loved.
It just took us time to find "the one" that was perfect in property size and interior colors. But when we saw it we knew and placed a bid!

Re: Did you just KNOW? (house hunting related)

yes we definitely knew right away this was the one!
We had seen close to 30 houses that were just ok, and we were never interested in putting an offer on anything. We went to the open house and both love it immediately..it has great potential, charm and on top of that everything was spotlessly clean! which is more than I can say for most of the places we saw.
Essentially, we both just got a good feeling about the place and there was almost no discussion on should we or shouldnt we? we just KNEW!

Yes, I kinda did! It wasn't perfect, and still isn't, but its the best decision we've made. We LOVE our neighbors and the house is really home to us.

Same for us!

We put in about 5-6 bids on different houses and none of them stuck for a variety of reasons.

I am so glad.

For our current house, I have a pic of DH walking in the front door (I had already jumped in and was taking pics) and I can tell from his face that he loved it from moment one.

I was eehhh about it because of the price. It wasn't until I really got it under market value that I loved it. In fact, most houses I didn't love unless I knew I could get it for a deal. It's just the way I am.

The house we're currently negotiating on my hubby and I both love the area, love the property, and love the house because it has so much potential.
It helps that both of us love it. Chat Icon
