Re: Did you love your first home?
Welcome to the board!
I had to respond to the 'do I paint paneling' question:
I referred to our basement as our Finnish Sauna because it was covered in the exact same wood paneling that is used in saunas. All we needed was a heat source and men in towels and we would be all set.
I decided to paint the paneling and my family thought I was crazy because it was going to take a lot of time and energy. I put on a coat of primer and then a few coats of Benjamin Moore 'Elephant Tusk' which is a beige/ivory.
It's now one of my favorite rooms in the house because it looks so much better. There is a full bathroom in the basement also done in the same awful paneling. I left it alone and now DH wants to paint the bathroom because he agrees that the paint job looks so much better than the paneling.

Re: Did you love your first home?
I did. it was a little one bedroom bungalow down by the canals (chateau la mer) in lindenhurst. It was sooo small so it didn't take long to clean, maintain the yard, nothing! it was affordable and life was easy that way too. i had a perfect itty-bitty little home for me & my dog. then my husband walked into my life...
now on second home, and it's been really good to us. no major malfunctions.

Welcome to the boards.
I have to say I love my house to pieces! Love the feeling I get every day when I walk in the door and love the neighborhood.

Re: Did you love your first home?
Welcome to the board
I can honestly say that I LOVE my house. Since the first time we walked through it, we knew it was perfect for us & that we could do our minor things to make it our home. Our house didn't need anything but paint on the inside & that was only in the bedrooms. The outside, that was a completely different story. Now almost 3 years later, I get chills when I pull into my driveway bc I know all the hardwork my DH & I put into it. We could not ask for a better location either!
When looking at houses, you have to look beyond the cosmetics & look for the potential. Not every house is going to be a paradise when you first move in. But that is why you are there, to make it your own! Trust me, it will seem so overwhelming but if you do it in strides, you will get it all accomplished.
