Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
I was actually born on my aunt's wedding day...My mom went into labor the morning of the wedding. They had to rush my brother off to my grandparents so they could get my mom to the hospital. The minute I was born, my dad had to run out & pick my brother up bc they all had to get to church. He then took my brother to a friends house. My poor mom was left in the hospital all alone! She made phone calls to everyone.
Everyone tells me that at my aunt's wedding, my grandfather was toasting & telling the entire world he had a Granddaughter since I am the one & only!

Not really about my birth. I was breech so my mom had a C-Section.
I was trying to lift myself up in the hospital as well, a born gymnast my mom says.
My mom brought me home on Mother's Day.

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
I always hear a few things.
The nurse came into my mother's room told her I had stopped breathing in the nursery but I was now breathing and everything was ok. She was not happy they told her after the fact.
She also tells me how there was a woman in her room (she shared with three other women) who was smoking. There was a girl on oxygen , she thought they were going to die from an explosion.
Two more things, they had to break her water because it did not break on her own but she was having consistent contractions. And once they broke her water total labor time was 45 minutes. Crossing my fingers I have the 45 minute labor thing handed down to me !

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
Oh Yes, they like to tell me how my head started to crown in their apartment, they had to rush to the hospital, my mother couldn't sit in the cab- I was born in 45 minutes from the time she realized she was in labor. It was so fast that my dad didn't have time to put his gown on for the delivery room and he watched from the door. My doctor also didn't make it in time, I was delivered by an intern.

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
I've been told MANY times how I was about a week late. Apparently I've always been a procrastinator. Then when I decided to be born, I wasted no time and my mom wasn't even in the delivery room yet, she almost had me right there in the hallway!!!
And she guilts me about it too, bc they wouldn't give her lunch and she could only have ice chips.

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
My mom tells it as evidence on why she should have divorced my father sooner.. she had a scheduled c-section. He drops her off and tells her he realized he forgot the camera. He says he is going to go home and get it - she tries to convince him not to but he doesnt listen and he doesnt get back for hours - I was born very soon after she got there - he first couldnt find a parking spot in front of their apartment building and then there was traffic on his way back.

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
My father tells me every year on my birthday. He calls me at exactly 7:27 a.m. which was the time that I was born... and delivered by Dr. Simon Duchman at Brooklyn Hospital, and how he had been really sick on my due date (Sept. 29 - 13 days before my actual birthday) so he asked me (while I was still in utero) to give him a few days so he could feel better. So I gave him 2 weeks.
And he always tells me that the very first time he held me I put my hand on his wallet... and I haven't taken it off since.

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
My mother and father were eating dinner (pork chops and arroz con gandules). My mom said to my dad, "I think I'm in labor." My dad said, oh ok -"so you're not going to eat that?"
Finished her plate. THEN took her to the hospital!

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
This is a great thread!
When my mom went for a checkup 2 weeks before I was due they couldnt find my heartbeat. They had to track my dad down at the police academy and rush him over since it was going to be an emergency c/s...... My Mom always tells me that it was easy to find which baby was theirs since I was the only caucasian baby in the nursery

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
I always got to hear how I was born as the Iranian Hostage Crisis was taking place (Nov. 4th 1979) and how my dad went to go buy the paper and coffee as I was being born

Re: Did your parents tell you any "story" about when you were born?
Yes..My mom always replays it every year...there was a big rainstorm the day I was born and the lights went out in the hospital and apparently I was born by flashlight with only my mom and the doctor in the delivery room..not that I do not believe her but I guess I just find it hard to believe that there was no backup generator or nurse in the room..but then again it was 1968....
