didy ou put your child on a schedule, or do you follow your child's lead?

i am going back and forth between trying to schedule her and then following her lead...

did you make a schedule and then your child adjusted to it or did you adjust to your child's schedule?

always do a bottle schdule but at around 5 months I follow my Dc's nap time need. That's how their nap time is established. It's all by observing them.

I kind of followed their lead. I would write down their daily schedule of feedings and naps and at a certain point, around 3 mos, I would see a pattern forming. I would tailor it from there if I needed to.

I will say however, that I was/am a stickler for a consitent naptime. If that meant staying home so that they could sleep in their own crib, it was a temporary sacrifice that I was happy to make. I think that REALLY helped our schedules.

With my oldest I let her lead because of breastfeeding. Now with this time Im trying to do a schedule b/c she was put on formula much sooner than I expected to be and with a toddler, i need to. Otherwise I like them to schedule themselves it seems to work out.

I followed my children's schedule in terms of when to feed them and I always put them to bed on their schedule (early) and did not force them to work within mine.

Same here. Now at 3 months DD is pretty much on a real schedule. I'm sure it will change though. But right now, her naptimes are the same every day. I always make sure we are home for her afternoon nap so she takes it in her crib.

I followed DS's schedule and he slept thru the night. I noticed that when he started waking up earlier, it was time to increase his formula/food and then he'd sleep thru the night.

I followed their leads & then later when they're older went with the daycare schedule.

If daycare regular had naps at 10am & 2pm, I tried my best to stay the same on the weekend. I didn't want my child to go through the adjustment on Mondays & give them a hard time because I couldn't get it together.

i did not follow her lead. i moved her feeds/ naps around until it worked for the household. She sleeps through the night for a long time already as well.

Re: didy ou put your child on a schedule, or do you follow your child's lead?

I followed his lead. The first couple of months, I BF'd on demand, and he fed every 2 hours, pretty much around the clock. Chat Icon

Now @ 3 months, I noticed he is developing his own schedule. While it's not concrete, he feeds about every 3 hours, and goes to bed around 930-10pm. He wakes to feed at 330 & 630am, up for the day by 8. His naps are generally around the same time every day.

The one thing I will try to do soon is get rid of the 630am feeding, by gradually decreasing the ounces I give him. I read this in my baby books...by 4 months, from a nutritional standpoint, they don't need to feed overnight..it might just be habit. And at the 630 feeding, DS only takes 1.5-2 oz. of expressed BM..so I'm hoping to wean him off that feeding.

Same here, we aways fed on demand and she napped and went to bed on her own schedule and it's worked. DD completely sleeps through the night.

We also did not want a strict schedule becuse we love to get up and go and wated DD to be very flexible with that kind of schedule :)

I definitely paid attention to DD's cues. I kept at them and stayed consistent from day 1 and I can't tell you happy I am that I did that!

I think it was a little bit of both! She led with the feeding and I led with the sleeping. Chat Icon
