Difference in price between newly installed solid oak floors and prefab wood floors?
We are redoing and expanding our Den in March. DH wants solid oak floors to match the rest of the house. we cannot do carpet b/c of athma issues and I hate the look of prefab floors. I was thinking tile. I think the price is very high for solid oak floors no? Any advice....

Re: Difference in price between newly installed solid oak floors and prefab wood floors?
Obviously it depends on the size of the room.
We just put down hardwood in our living room which is 375 sq ft. The Oak ended up being way over our budget and we wound up going with Elm which in the end, I thought looked much better.
The Oak was going to cost us about $3,300, the Elm was about $2,100 when all was said and done.
We did end up going with a pre-finished floor. It would have been much more expensive not to.

Re: Difference in price between newly installed solid oak floors and prefab wood floors?
We did solid white oak in our dining room (14x19) & entry hall (6x14) - the price was $1000 and I had a bundle plus some more left over. We installed ourselves but had gotten quotes of about $1800-$2000 for install including material
Ceramic Tile can range from $1 to $20 / sqft and the install is around $4-$7 per sqft)
The engineered wood was more expensive than buying unfinished and having them stained/polyed.
In the long run I don't think you will save money with ceramic. That's just my opinion.
I would price everything out but in the long run I would get what you want now as I dn't think the cost is going to be that dramatic of a difference.
