dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
Ok, so today was my 2nd outing with my little man. We went supermarket shopping and I tried putting the baby carrier on the top part but got nervous and ended up putting it in the bottom part (poor DS had groceries all around him, but he didn't mind). I'm def. a relaxed mom with other stuff, but I do fear that if the carrier isn't secure, it will fall (I worked at Chuck E. Cheese's for years and once saw a baby carrier with an infant in it fall over because somebody turned a highchair upside down to hold it and of course, it wasn't safe. Poor baby was flung out and suffer some injuries). I will never forget that situation. In fact, I would always worn parents whenever I see upside down highchairs holding carriers. I always swore up and down I would never do this.
So, my question for you ladies, how do you use the carrier & shopping carts and the carrier & highchairs? When I went to Applebee's with my sister, we put the carrier in the booth so I didn't need a highchair, but what if a larger booth isn't an option?
I'm an extremely active mommy and plan on being out and about next week and on.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
I put the carrier in a booth or on a reg. chair , never on a highchair, I actually saw a baby fall off a highchair in a diner, so scary

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
So far, I've kept DS in his snap n go at restaurants.
I posted the same question about grocery carts today. I just put the car seat in the big part of the cart, but that barely leaves any room for groceries. I don't feel comfortable putting the car seat on the top part of the cart though.

see, that's my dilema as well. I hope some girls on here have advice for us about the shopping cart situation.

There really isn't another solution unless you bring a stroller and push the cart. I always just put her in the back and put my stuff around her and in the seat.

As far as shopping carts, I either go with someone and they have the cart, I have DS in the stroller, or I use just teh stoller and pile stuff on top and stick things in the underneath part. Resturaunts, diners and such, I put him on the booth or even the table.

I think the only other option is putting DC in some type of sling or carrier.

I used to put Kristina in her carrier in the shopping cart area that wasn't the greatest in safety..... I would just walk around the store pushing her seat instead of the cart! We got around well enough!

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
I never really felt safe either. When I went shopping, I left the carseat in the car and used the baby carrier. When he was an infant, I used the moby; and then when he got bigger, I used the ergo. I also found that a lot of times, he would take a nap in it.
I used the snap and go in restaurants.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
If I am doing a big shopping trip at the supermarket, I will put DS in a sling or in the seat part and hold the car seat all the time. At BJs or Costco, I put him in the basket part. At restaurants, I keep DS in the Graco Snap and Go or in the booth (if the car seat fits)

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
for shopping carts i just went o those places with someone or waited for dh to be home...
restaurants were a different story... ds didnt last in the carrier very long, he was out of it at 2 months... so w always bring in the stroller... it is just easier.. however the one time i went out with his in the carrier they had a special stand for the carrier

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
When I go out to eat I put the car seat on the carrier and put it right next to our table. I feel like this is the safest option. I have never put it on a seat or a high chair. I did this with my DS and I am doing the same thing now with my DD.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
I never seemed to get the infant carseat in the shopping cart right...i would try and I never felt it was safe. I used the bjorn carrier when shopping....It's the best. The baby is close to you and you have both hands free. Also I usually just put DD in the booth at a restaurant or used the snap and go stroller and pulled in up to the table.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
For the couple of times we've been to restaurants with our 3 month old we've used a stroller or have been able to put him in the booth along side us. For food shopping I try to go with DH so one pushes the stroller and the other pushes the cart. Otherwise DS goes in the larger part of the cart and groceries go all around him.

I push the stoller and pull the cart, I always need all the space in the cart anyway. I look like a train.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
When I needed to do a big grocery shopping I used the snap in go with the car seat and a cart. I would push the cart/pull the stroller to the back of the store (less traffic). Then I would do each aisle with the stroller and throw what I accumulated into the cart when I got back to it. Usually when someone saw me pushing a full cart back to the front while dragging the stroller I'd get help.
In restaurants we would put the car seat in a booth or use the snap n go.
Otherwise I generally used the stroller.
There are some carts and highchairs that certain car seats will snap into but I found them few and far between.

Sorry to hear that you witnessed something so terrible at Chuck E Cheese but I am really glad you mentioned it because I had some people criticize me for not wanting to turn a high chair upside down. They thought I was being overly protective. It just never looked safe to me. I almost always used the Snap N Go stroller. I really did not like carrying the infant carrier. I sometimes put the carrier in the back of a shopping cart but I often went shopping with my DH and one of us would wheel a shopping cart and the other would push the stroller. I did put the carrier in the front of a shopping cart a few times but that would depend on the shape of the cart.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
When DD was in a carrier I usually had no problem putting her on the shopping car. Her carrier usually always snapped into place.
For highchairs I usually just put her in the booth with us.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
when I went to the supermarket, my car seat didn't fit either. That's when I started using Peapod
But it was really only a problem until she was 5-6 months and then she could sit up on her own and I put her in the shopping cart seat part in the Floppy seat
I know it seems like forever until you get to that point, but it will come soon!

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
The infant carrier always seemed secure to me in shopping carts. (I just had a hard time navigating since it was hard for me to see over it).
Restaurants I always used a booth, the table, or brought the stroller in too.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
Kaydyn's carrier never fit in shopping carts. So I used to either put her in the back of the cart and stack my groceries on the top and around her...or I would use the snap and go and carry a basket as well as put groceries on the bottom of the snap and go.
In restaurants we either put her carrier in a booth or on a chair. We never put her on an upside down high chair.

Re: dilema with baby carrier & high chairs/shopping carts
I use the snap and go and put grocerys at the bottom. Otherwise if I forgot the snap and go, i did what you did, and put the infant seat in the main part of shopping cart, putting on the seat part always freaked me out too.
eta: also at restaurants we put infant seat in booth or on top of table next to wall.. never put in highchair upside down. plus the fear of a waiter bumping into it always freaked me out.
