dining room colors
I'm planning on buying chocolate brown slip covers and wondering what color to paint my dining room. I was thinking of brown below the chair rail and a beige above. Thoughts?

Re: dining room colors
would it be too much brown? What kind of flooring?
For a beige, I love BM Boardwalk.

Re: dining room colors
That's what I think, but I don't know what to do. I'm good at choosing colors. The floors are wood. Furniture is light like a laminate. I wanted some nice slip covers, the lighter one's show my black cat's hair really badly.

Re: dining room colors
Wondering if reds would work nice and still do brown for the chairs. Like BM AF270 - tea room. Not sure what the other color should be - I want 2 different colors - 1 for above the chair rail and one for below. I guess greens can work too like tree moss and dune grass? I'm horrible at this stuff.

Ooooh, red would look so nice, too!
I (think) usually it looks best with the darker color on the bottom, and the lighter , less dramatic color on the top. But I'm not sure if it's a hard & fast rule.

Re: dining room colors
I know, but I'm not a fan of "light" reds... pink? Not so much - LOL.
What would compliment a rich red? Chair rail I'll keep white I guess.

Re: dining room colors
There's always blue's and greens, but I feel like that's a theme in my house... either blue and brown or green and brown. Maybe consistency is ok?

Re: dining room colors
I would pick two different shades of the same color for above and below the chair raiil, and do the lighter on top. So in other words, pick a paint strip on the color wheel and choose a shade at the bottom of the strip for under the chair rail and go two or three shades up for above the chair rail. That way, you have contrast, but it's subtle. That's how they do it on HGTV! : )
I think two completely different colors could clash, even within the same general color family (could have different undertones).
I agree that the dark brown paint would be too much with chocolate brown chair covers. Maybe two shades of tan or beige would work (one darker, one lighter). Or as you said, a color like blue could be very nice.
I love a red dining room, but I think it works best for a true formal dining room with a somewhat traditional look - - but that's jmo.

Re: dining room colors
I have a red dining room with white below the chair rail. My furniture is a dark brown wood. Here is a pic. Color is RL Barn Red (no longer available but BM Pomaganate is almost identical.

Re: dining room colors
BM Shaker Beige on the top and Plum Island ( I think ) on the bottom.
