Discipline and 3.5 year old.

Please tell me what works for you. Any books out there that have helped? I really don't feel I am very successful with this.

ETA: Especially what you do when you are out or at a playdate i.e. in front of non-family.

I do the same thing at home that I do in front of people when we are out or on playdates.

If she is having a melt down, I take her to a quiet place and tell her we can stay here until she calms down.

If she is hitting, not sharing, etc she goes in a time out.

playdate=go home.

I am not a time out person.
He is told that I arranged this playdate, dragged my baby out of the house, drove him there so he could have a good time, and if he wants to act like an animal, he can do it at home where my baby is comfortable.

After being told that speech, we have zero issues at playdates.

Re: Discipline and 3.5 year old.

I use timeouts when with family, or out, but they arent particularly effective.

What does seem to work, is taking away a toy, or whatever he is playing with a putting it in the "time out closet"....he has to earn it back. Sometimes we will have 4 or 5 toys in there, waiting to earn there way back to the playroom.

It works for us, its the only thing that works.

DS gets time-outs ANYWHERE. If he is talking fresh or not behaving. I have also taken away toys.

Lately he's been throwing fits and wasting time. I'm trying to get him to understand if he does it my way first, he'll have time to do his things but its not working yet.
