Disgusted/Shocked/WTF!?!?
So a "friend" on Facebook had a birthday party for her daughter this past weekend with a specific Disney theme. Her daughter received multiple duplicates of presents, as I am assuming many guests purchased gifts to go with the party theme. I just signed on to FB to poke around and my jaw dropped to the ground when I saw that she is selling her daughter's duplicate toys on Facebook. A few things come to mind:
1) I am assuming she is friends with other parents whose children were at this party -- what if they gifted the duplicates and now see that she is selling their gift for monetary profit?!?! If this were one of my gifts, I would be highly insulted.
2) When someone commented on one of her pictures, "Are you selling your daughter's toys?!?!" her response was, "Heck yes, I am! So many duplicates from (insert daughter's name) party. Ugh!"
3) The real reason this upsets me -- Why not donate the duplicates? A local shelter, children's hospital, etc. would so appreciate the gesture and those kids would LOVE these toys.
I just had to share this. I am speechless and contemplating messaging her and suggesting donating them. Even as a child at Christmas time/birthday parties, any time I got a duplicate, I was taught to smile and politely thank the person. Here's a 30 something year old women selling her kid's presents on Facebook. Is there no tact anymore?!?!

Was it frozen themed??? It's pretty tacky to sell them...she's better off quietly regifting.
Honestly it's tacky but if I gave a gift for a party whatever the mom does with the gift is none of my business.

Yes, Frozen theme but I have to think it would be way too crazy for us to know the same person living in Indiana?!?!

I'm on the fence (people sell new/used on CL, yard sales, regift etc) but I think te tacky part is selling on FB maybe.

Re: Disgusted/Shocked/WTF!?!?
While I would not sell gifts, I can't judge someone else's finances. When we have received duplicates I have regifted and donated them. Once dd received twelve of the same gift. Some thankfully came with receipts and those I returned. A lot of stores don't accept returns without a receipt even if you know the item was purchased there and is still in stock on the shelves. If she exhausted those resources what is she supposed to do? I think you are way to harsh to judge another parent like ths. You don't know their finances or what or how they donate.

Well that explains why she is selling some of the toys for upwards of $75!

Eh, they arent that hard to come by anymore. I dont know, I dont think its that big of a deal. They assume she didnt get gift receipts, what else is she supposed to do with htem? Yes, I guess she could donate them but really, Im not going to judge her not donating toys. As long as she plans on using the money, or some of it, to get something for her daughter, it really wouldnt bother me.

I don't think it's a big deal at all. Her daughter got duplicates, why should she *have* to donate her gifts? Now granted, my daughter donated all of her birthday gifts to Birthday Wishes, but I don't think anyone *needs* to donate their duplicate birthday gifts. Her mom can sell them and let her get something else. No difference in returning to the store and getting something else.

It's ballsy to sell them on Facebook when probably a lot of the attendees are probably on her friends list. It shouldn't be any of my business what she does I guess, but I would definitely be thinking what the f*ck.

I still can't find any Elsa plush dolls and I refuse to pay marked up prices.

i agree. i know that i have re-gifted.
i do have an issue (and i'm going to assume the OP) with it happening so shamelessly on FB for everyone to see.
if she did it quietly and discretely, i don't think anyone would have a problem.

Yep! This is really what irked me and why I posted about it. We've all returned gifts, re-gifted things, etc. but its the public Facebook for all to see (including guests who purchased the gifts) that bothered me.

I don't see it as any different than returning at the store. It was a gift and what they choose to do with it at this point is their right. Maybe advertising on FB is a bit over the top but if there are other people in the circle that would like the toys, it's a win since they now don't have to go to the store.

That's ballsy! At least sell it on eBay or return to the store. Fb? Seriously? What an embarrassment

That's so tacky. If you have doubles, you return them to the store & get store credit if you don't have a gift receipt.

I would have donated them, like you suggested, and I can't picture any of my friends doing differently. Family, that's another story.

Re: Disgusted/Shocked/WTF!?!?
I personally don't see anything wrong with selling duplicate gifts without receipt. They were given to her daughter and they are to do with them as they please! This has happened to me a few times and I sold the duplicates and put the profit into my daughter's account or bought her something she really wanted.
However, the fast that she is selling them on FB where people who gave her those things can see that their gifts were duplicates IS pretty tacky. The one thing I was taught at an early age is that you always make sure to show the person who gave you a gift that it is very much appreciated! Seeing your gifts sold on FB certainly doesn't make you feel appreciated...
