Disney - talk to me about Mickey's Halloween party
We are going to Disney in October and my DS is 3 1/2. Is the Halloween party worth it? It's a lot of money and I am not 100% sure he will love it. I guess I am looking for opinions from anyone who has younger children who went.
Worth it or not?

Re: Disney - talk to me about Mickey's Halloween party
We took our DD#1 on her 1st trip when she was 15 months. She LOVED it! Lines were very short or non existent for many rides (they let us stay on many things and not get off). DD loved the dance parties with the characters. It was so cute to see her dancing with donald and chip and dale in costume. She did enjoy the parade and the fireworks. We didn't do any trick or treating.
You can get in early on the ticket I think I read you can get in around 4 or so (they give you a bracelet) even though the party doesn't start until 7. You could do one day less on your park tickets and do a sleep in morning and do maybe a character breakfast late and relax by the pool. Then go and have dinner in the park.
I would definitely give it a try. We really had a great time and would love to bring the girls back for it. Make sure you bring a costume for your DC b/c most of the kids wear one. DD crashed right after the fireworks so my parents were with us and they went back to the room with her and DH and I stayed for about another hour. If you don't have that option there were lots of parents walking around with sleeping ones. Even if you leave after the fireworks if you go in early you could be in the MK on that ticket from say 4 or 5-10 or 1030pm - if you leave right after the fireworks.

So you don't have to have a park ticket for the day of the Halloween party? The party ticket counts as your admission to the park too?

It's not good for the whole day. With the party ticket you gain admittance at 4pm. If you enter before that, you will need to use a regular ticket (individual or a ticket day that is part of your package)

Re: Disney - talk to me about Mickey's Halloween party
You don't need separate park admission, and the ticket lets you enter MK after 4pm. The party lasts until 12,. so that's a nice full day and you can just not buy a park ticket that day and do DTD or let the kids relax by the pool so they have optimum energy for the party.
I don't have kids, but i LOVE MNSSHP. First of all, it's the only time adults are allowed to dress up. You SHOULD dress up. It's so much fun. Characters will all be in costume and they'll interact with you and DC as if you're the character you're dressed as.
I'll try to break down what you get with the HP
1) 8 hours park admission - not bad. We're AP holders, so this means nothing to us, but if you're not, it can offset the cost because you need one day fewer of park admission.
2) Shorter lines on rides. I think the real benefit here is riding the ride you or DC is dressed as. I had a blast riding Snow White. Also, the Haunted Mansion CMs REALLY get into it for the HP. Splash Mountain is also a fantastic ride to ride at night. The view of the park is breathtaking. Other than that I don't really recommend spending too much time on rides because there's so much else to enjoy
3) Trick or Treating - There's a trail. I have to be honest, it's kind of lame. I thought it would be special candy. It's normal candy from normal cast members and you have to go to weird places to get it. I personally would try to dissuade my kids from taking the whole trail
4) Dance parties- These are cute. They're so much less crowded than other things during the day so the kids can actually go up and dance with their favorite characters who are also in costume
5) Villains Mix and Mingle - a castle stage show based on the villians. It's quite good (has an annoying song though), and the Villians come down afterward for photos/autographs
6) The "Boo to You" Parade- NOT to be missed. I LOVE this parade. It has many characters is costume and floats you never see otherwise. For example, it starts with the headless horseman and there is a phenomenal Haunted Mansion sequence.
7) HalloWishes - A really AWESOME fireworks show. I can't remember specifics, but I remember that both DH and i LOVED this.
8) CHARACTERS - MNSSHP is the best time to have meet and greets with rare character s and they're the mose accessible I've ever seen them. For example, they had Snow White with ALL SEVEN DWARFS, which you never see. I missed this because I was going on rides. Stupid. They also have characters waslking around. I had a confrontation with Cindy's step-sisters who were trying to steal my price. A whole crowd gathered. It was SOOO much fun.
9) General atmosphere. Love it.
10) Special Limited Edition Merch.

This is great to know, thanks to both of you. We did not get tickets to the park for every day of our stay. I thought I would have to go to the park that day so I could go to the Halloween party, but I would actually rather do the Halloween party by itself if I can do that.

No only if you want to go to the park before say 4pm. But if you don't care about going before 4pm you don't need a park ticket that day. But a lot of people don't do park tickets that day and make it a sleep in morning or character breakfast and pool day - then they head to the park at 4 when they can get in on their MNSSHP ticket - so you don't use 2 tickets basically on one day.

Not sure if this was mentioned above, but my advice is NOT to buy your tickets in advance. Yes, it does save you a few dollars on each ticket but the party is almost never cancelled due to inclement weather unless condiitions are hazardous (lightning, etc.) and you don't want to feel forced into going on a night that is really not conducive to you having a good time. Once you purchase your tickets, there are NO refunds unless the party is cancelled in most cases.

When are you planning to go - this is good advice but keep in mind the closer you get to Halloween sometimes they do sell out. I have had friends get down there then not be able to get tickets. But if you are going early in the month that isn't usually an issue.

Excellent point and I agree. If you are planning on attending the party anywhere near the 31st, you do run the chance of it selling out early. Plan accordingly!

Re: Disney - talk to me about Mickey's Halloween party
We just got back from disney and did the mickeys not so scary halloween party. Ds is 2 and my other ds is 6 months.
so worth it! It was a lot of fun - i had both boys dressed up. Make sure your ds takes a late nap - tire him out as much as you can during the day so he will nap late and be up for the night. my son took a nap from 4-7:30 and was ready to party the whole night!

We aren't going too close to Halloween, so we were going to get them when we got to WDW. I thought about the weather, so didn't want to be committed to a set day. also, I checked online and I think we would only save like $6.00 per ticklet to buy in advance. We are sort of planning that if it works out, great, if not, no big deal. My DS won't know if we miss it or not since we don't plan on saying anything until we have the tickets.
Again, thanks all for your help!

Re: Disney - talk to me about Mickey's Halloween party
FWIW I never let the rain stop me doing anything at Disney. It usually doesn't rain for long, you can jump into a longer indoor attraction like CoP, and by the time you're out, it;s over and people have headed for the hills.
One of my best Disney memories was on night during E-ride nights (like evening EMH but you had to pay so it was less crowded), when there was a downpour. I put on a hoodie and I think CoP was open and we went on. When we got out, the park was EMPTY. It was just us and the puddles. Not a soul in sight. It had stopped raining and we had the park to ourselves. It was almost eerie.

I was just talking about the rain with someone yesterday - that it doesn't usually last long, and I got some of those disposable ponchos, so I think we will be good.
My DH and I have a running bicker-fest about the CoP - he HATES it and can't understand why it's still open. I told him recently, "want to know why? Some people go there at 2pm in August!" He calls it the Carousel of Lameness. Your mention of that made me

I actually LOVE CoP and would cry if they ever closed it. First of all, it's an original from the 1964 World's Fair. Walt had a big part in designing it. I think it's a really cool restrospective of everyday technology. Let's face it, our kids will never know what a record player is, so it's cool for them to see an icebox, exposed wires, etc. I also LOVE the song.

nope, haven't seen it ...
while we were on the ride it stopped twice because someone tried to climb on stage in another section ... first time it was quick but the second time i thought there was a major issue cause we were stuck there so long ... people were banging on the doors and yelling "please, let us out!" ... it was annoying at the time but now it's a funny story, lol ...

That would scare me because of the CM who died on the DL version. :(
When I went on Mission:SPACE for the first time, right after the thing came down over us, I guess people got scared or were claustrophobi because they started banging to get out, and in the time it took them to get them out MORE people started banging, and then MORE...so we were trapped in that thing for 10-15 minutes. I was starting to hyperventilate, but I was NOT going to chieckn out, esp since we were in the pod with 2 7 year olds who were cool as cucumbers
