Disney dining plan- worth it?

I just wanted to know some thoughts on if you found the Disney Dining plan worth the extra cost? Especially if you are not planning on doing many character dining experiences? We did the dining plan last time but next fall when we go again, we are probably only doing 1 character meal so I don't know if the dining plan would make sense. Just wanted to get some thoughts.

I never do the dining plan, but we don't eat a bunch of character meals. We did it once when it was free, and it was stressful trying to plan all the sit down meals and times

Re: Disney dining plan- worth it?

I have gotten it for our first trip and are getting it again for our upcoming Feb trip but this time I am keeping all the receipts and really seeing if it is worth it. For 1 character meal I don't think it is worth it at all. I think it is worth it if you do multiple character meals. I will know after Feb. We do most of our character meets through dinner. I'd don't want to waste time standing in line for characters.

i have done it both ways a few times. It definitely depends on how you eat there. For us - we like to have at least one sit down a day to rest/relax. Sometimes more if there is a special character meal or theme place. We also tend to book meals where we can met characters bc waiting for them in the parks can be torture. I also feel like half the fun of Disney are the themed restaurants! So for us - it is always cheaper to get the dining plan

It also depends if you're spending every day at Disney. We usually do a few days at Universal so it never pans out for us.

We plan on using the Dining Plan again. For our trip this past August, we had the plan with 2 snacks/day, 1 quick service, and 1 table service. We like sitting down for a meal, usually dinner, once a day. Lunch we used our quick service. Only thing was we had a hard time using up all the snack credits to be honest. But the ones we did use were on big pricey, and filling snack items. We feel like we probably came out around even with the dining plan. But it was nice to not worry about the cost of everything. Like if I wanted something expensive I could get it. Made it vacation feel more like a vacation. My DS is 4 and eats a decent amount so I didn't feel like we wasted it on him.

We are vacation club members, and have calculated the costs numerous times - both before and after the trip. For us it's not worth it. We have annual passes as well, so there is almost always a discount on meals. Even without the discount, the out of pockets costs are lower (not significantly - @ $20-$50) - but there is no wasted food, and we don't overeat trying to get our money's worth.
