Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

Are we completely crazy for considering it? Its part of a timeshare week - and we were just toying around with the idea. 2 Kids --- 5 and 3 years old. Need some feedback.

TIA!

eh I went when I was 5m pregnant last year in aug. It was torture walking around. Sometimes it all depends on how breezy is it. A lot of people go in the summer so its doable, you might just have to break up the day so the kids dont get tired and dont enjoy themselves.

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

We did Disney in August this year and it was great. It was hot but we aren't bothered by the heat at all and my kids were fine with it. We took breaks, brought lots of water in for the day, and luckily it rained each day so it would cool down a bit. We used a timeshare week also and will do it again without a hesitation.

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

that would be my absolute nightmare. I've visited my grandparents in FL in July, and it can be over 100 w/ horrible, horrible humidity.

For us it would be a no go. 95- 100 degree humid days would be absolutely miserable.

If you don't mind the heat, humidity, and A LOT of people, then it is fine...I did it once in the summer and will never do it again...Chat Icon

If you do the last weeks in August, it is relatively empty...southern schools are all back in session.

My mom went on her honeymoon with my stepdad in July and she said that it was so hot that her fingers and toes swelled up.

Personally we will never do Disney in the summer. We don't like the heat, we get cranky.

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

We went in July last year. I teach, so summer and other vacations are our only option. It's hot and it's busy....BUT there are often great deals during the summer. It's Disney...I'm sure you will have a great time if you go in July.

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

ok, were odd men out. We go every year around July 20th, for my ds birthday. We are heat freaks, we dont mind the heat at all. As long as you drink alot, wear light clothing and have a little spray bottle/fan, your good to go. And I have never waited more then a half hour for a ride TOPS in july. If you know how to work the fast passes, it will help you out alot.

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

I would never do disney in july/august...

Aside from the crowds, the heat i've been told is miserable. It's just not fun to walk with kids and have everyone sweating and hot and waiting on long rides.

I can't wait to go again sometime..but we will definitely be doing january again..it was beautiful!!!

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

If that is when you can go, then I think you'll be fine as long as you know what you're getting into. Yes, it will be hot and humid. So bring a collapsable cooler and fill it with bottled water every day. Take breaks from the sun/heat when you need it. Many Disney rides are indoors. Don't plan to do the parks every day. Give yourselves a couple of days to just relax at the pool, or atleast plan a water park day. We go every year the 3rd week in June and the 1st week of September. September is WAY better, but we have a blast both times.

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

I wouldn't. It's INSANELY crowded (I'm talking 2 to 3hr lines at every park) and it's INSANELY hot and humid. I lived down in FL for 4 years and we avoided the parks like the plaque in the summertime. It's just awful and it ruins the whole visit.

Edit - BEST time to visit is Sept. until right before Thanksgiving and then from right after Thanksgiving until Xmas. The temps are much, much better and a lot of the time the parks are empty. We had a season pass while down there and there were times the parks were so quiet they would literally let us just stay on the ride if we wanted to go again. We walked right onto every ride with NO lines whatsoever. Awesome!!

Re: Disney in July? Yay or Nay?

We go to Disney every other year in Aug with my entire family. It is VERY hot and the parks are crowded, but a lot of my family are teachers or the kids are in school so we can only go in the summer.

We generally go to the parks in the morning, go back to the hotel in the early afternoon and either hang out in the AC or go in the pool, then head back to the park in the evening when it's cooler.

No if it the only time you can go I would go - but I would be very prepared - research in advance etc. It will be very hot - but it will also be very crowded so you will want to make your ADRs as soon as you can and maybe have some touring plans put together (you can always deviate from them) but they will help you get to see/ride the most attractions.

Bring changes of clothes - some of the parks have interactive water areas that your children can use to cool off in.
