Re: disney points
David's dvc point rental! It's a little more expensive ($13 per point), but they're BBB certified and really reputable. I just booked today

Re: disney points
I've heard good things about David's and dvc-request.com
I haven't done it myself. October is a VERY popular time for DVC members due to Food and Wine and relatively low points to stay. If renting is the way you want to go, I would try to get it locked in BEFORE the 7 month mark, especially if you want to stay in an EPCOT area hotel.
One other thing to think about is that October has historically been a free dining month, and you can't get that promo if you are renting points.

Re: disney points
I would look at ebay or look on Disboards. Many of them are less than $13 a point (which is a lot IMO).

Re: disney points
You can do a private transaction, but be careful and make sure you have a contract.
Be especially wary of ebay. A lot of the people with villas to rent are trading in from RCI and they are NOT allowed to rent, so you can be cancelled on by DIsney. If you see something like "$95 fee to be paid by Disney at check in" steer clear
