Disney pop century hotel

Ok so we are now leaning towards staying at Disney pop century hotel.. I like that they have their own busses so we won't have to share with the all star hotels however I don't know anyone who stayed at the pop century so I need some reviews on it please :)

We have stayed there several times , basic, small rooms, but fine. My kids actually love it. Bus lines were always super long though on just about every trip. I like the food court, tons of choices. The theming is super cute.

They run often, every 15 minutes of so. But the resort is huge, and most people are relying on the buses. Obviously the early morning is bad, as well as when the park closes.

I'm not going to lie, the etiquette on the buses from there has been POOR IMO. I will tell you the issue I have run into on every single stay. That resort seems to have the highest use of ECV's IMO. Not sure why that is! But...they roll up and don't have to wait in line. They board first through the back door, along with the rest of their party, which is always a ton of people. Now sometimes the driver has enforced the rule of the rest boarding in the line, but it generally hasn't worked that way. Actually I have only seen that once, and we have stayed there multiple times. Then when you do get on the bus, the men are sitting, the little kids are taking up a seat when their parents could plop them on their lap, and you are standing while trying to hold your kids hand, a diaper bag, while holding up a stroller. Can you tell I'm bitter over the bus there?! LOL. We rented a car our last stay there which was almost 2 years ago, and I was less stressed out about the bus, and it was fine.

Some people will say they love the bus, never had an issue, so don't just go on my experience alone. I have little patience to begin with, and the behavior of the people was just such a huge turnoff to me!

We just stayed at the Wilderness Lodge last month, and didn't encounter a single ECV on the bus or boat there. Just an observation ;)

P.S. it's still a fun resort, and you can't beat the price!! Just expect the worst from the buses, pack your patience, and when they are great during your trip, you will be happy lol

Re: Disney pop century hotel

I've stayed at Pop Century several times. In fact, between Pop and the All Stars I've had I think six separate stays at Disney's Value Resorts.

Pop gets the edge for me because it doesn't share buses and it has a huge, open food court area. I've found that the buses really aren't that bad. Like the buses at ANY hotel if you're trying to go to the same place at the same time as everyone else, there wlll be crowds. The idea is to avoid that to the extent possible

ETA: I also like that some rooms at Pop are muhc quieter and have at least a partial view of the lake.

Disney pop century hotel

DH and I stayed at Pop once many years ago and it was enjoyable. The food court was good and the rooms were fine, just a bit small. The themeing was fun. It is the only value I would stay at. The buses aren't great but I don't think any buses from any resort, value to deluxe, are that good.

Re: Disney pop century hotel

This is where we usually stay with our last trip Nov 11. We find it to suit our needs and don't have any issue with buses.
Every time I consider staying somewhere else the prices are so much more I just can't justify. You really are in your room for such a limited amount of time.

Re: Disney pop century hotel

I stayed there in 2005 and it was fine. I did not even know what I was missing until I stayed at the resort ones but I was not missing much in terms of how the rooms were- just the resorts themselves which you can always book dinner at.
as a poster said you really are not in the rooms that much anyway

Re: Disney pop century hotel

I've stayed at all level of resort - Value, Moderate Deluxe, Villas, on the monorail you name it so I know what I'm missing and I still really do like Pop and the All Stars.

After many many trips I can tell you what irks us about the Values:

-Paper thin walls - you will hear every toilet in the building flush or it seems like it.

-Spotty availability of services. We've had luggage services pick up our luggage for us, but we've also been told to come get the cart ourselves and leave a driver's license. The Luggage/Bell services at the Deluxe resorts really have us spoiled since they are very full service there.

Buses - eh. ANYWHERE you stay on property you're going to be taking the bus somewhere. If you stay on the monorail, paying huge bucks you're sharing buses with 2 other resorts. I like to stay where I can avoid a bus, but I can live with it.

Re: Disney pop century hotel

we stayed there in May 2011. It was just DH and I (before we adopted DS), and another couple (also without kids). We were looking for a low-cost 4 night trip- and Pop definitely fit what we needed. The rooms were very basic, but fine. (We were only there to sleep).
I really liked the themeing of it- all of the cool oversized charater statues (and other stuff- giant Rubix cube, giant laptop... right outside our room was a giant Big Wheels bike!) I could definitely see that being fun for kids, too.
We didn't have much issue at all with the buses. maybe because we didn't have kids with us, we were able to get up and out quickly in the mornings and beat the crowds a little bit. I liked that they had their own buses to each resort, so it made it really easy to get around.
The food court was great for breakfast- easy to grab something and go... and big enough to handle the morning rush.
we also liked that there were a few pools to pick from, so you had some variety there.
overall, for the cost i don't think you can really go wrong.
