Disney questions re: meals

For those who have gone to Disney with a toddler (around 2 years old), what did you do for meals for them? My DD is a very, very picky eater, so I'm worried that she won't eat the entire time we're there! Are you allowed to bring food into the parks for kids? Are there healthy food options available at the parks/hotels for snacks? If we do character meals, will we have to pay for her even though she won't eat much? Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated!! TIA!

Hi. My dd was a horrible eater at Tht age and she ate quite well at Disney. There are plenty of healthy meal and snack options all around the parks and hotels. I believe DisBoards or AllEars.net has menus for all the restaurants, you may want to look at that. You will have to pay for your dd at character meals, but I believe a lower rate. If you are staying on property the meal plan is a great deal. Hth.

Re: Disney questions re: meals

We took DS 2x when under the age of three.

DC will be fine. You do not have to pay for a child under 3 at a character buffet or similar type meal.

We brought snacks into the park that we packed or bought elsewhere and DS ate those or off our plates. Occasionally he'd get his own entree, usually if we did quick service. Many quick service places have surprisingly healthy sides - apples, carrots, grapes, etc.

The meal plan may or may not be a great deal depending on your eating habits. It did not work for us, but it works for others.

Thanks so much! So good to know we can bring snacks and drinks into the parks...I wasn't sure if they'd allow that!

Re: Disney questions re: meals

I was surprised at how well my kids at on our last trip to Disney. The food is so kid friendly. We stayed at Polynesian and the food was really good there. Breakfast was delish. We usually ate quick counter food for lunch and went to sit down dinners for dinner.

The next time we go, I will be sure to get groceries delivered for water, juice, Gatorade and fresh fruit.

Oh that's a really good idea about having groceries delivered for that kind of stuff. I've heard about Garden Grocer (I think that's the name) that delivers to Disney property. Has anyone used that?

There are some healthy options or healthier options and tons of kids options.

Kids under 3 can eat for free off your plate at a la carte type places. If you order a kids meal you will be charged but they are pretty cheap. Counter service and table service places vary but you can find anything from grilled chicken strips to fresh fish or chicken drumsticks depending on where you pick. But most places have staples - uncrustables, chicken fingers/nuggets, hamburgers, turkey sandwiches, hot dogs, mac and cheese or pasta with marinara and of course pizza. Kids meals come with 2 sides so my girls often got grapes and apple slices or carrots. So you can choose that over fries or cookies if you wish. There are healthier options but the key is to go to allearsnet.com and first search the menus so you can pick counter service places first. BOG has turkey meatloafs, turkey sandwiches and some other non traditional choices. Counter service you will pay for a meal if you order a kids meal but we found it was worth it. Some places have kids power packs wiyh cheese sticks, yogurt , etc. Finding freash fruit is very easy. There were plenty of stands that sold it.

With most family style or buffet places children under 3 eat free. I have heard CRT only offers buttered noodles to some but others I know got a meal.

At the resorts it is very easy to get fruit, yogurt and share a pizza or pasta etc. In fact the kids breakfasts were a decent size so the kids would share them and sometimes dh and I got them rather than the adult ones. They have mickey waffles, eggs and strawberries.

They do not allow hard coolers or any glass products. You could make a peanut butter sandwich and throw it in your bag. I have in the past ordered from garden grocer (like peapod). Take ziplocks or small boxes of cheerios, goldfish etc. Juice boxes too. Not sure you could whip them out at table service but your dc could snack in the parks or at a cs place.
