Disney Vacation Club?
Is anyone a member? Can you give me some information on it? Like, do you think it's worth it? We've been to Disney 3 times in the last 4 years and are seriously contemplating this, but I don't want to buy and regret it later. Is there a website that will give me information OTHER than Disney? I feel like if I contact Disney I'll just get a sales pitch, and I know I won't hear the negatives.
Thanks!

Re: Disney Vacation Club?
check out disboards.com It is a disney posting site like this one is - not run by disney. There are very knowledgeable people over there and even some cast members (employees). There is a section for DVC - and I know people have gotten spread sheets with breakdowns and a ton of other info from them.

Re: Disney Vacation Club?
We joined last year!!! We've gone to Dinsey at least every other year for the past 5 years and will continue going back, so it made sense for us. We also have 6 people in our family so everytime we go we need to get a suite or 2 rooms -- which gets to be $$$$. When we broke it down it worked out better for us.
They also have other properties that you can use it at - you don't have to keep going to Disney. Last summer we stayed at their resort in Hilton Head, which we absolutely loved and are going back to in August.
If you have any questions you can FM me!!

Re: Disney Vacation Club?
DH and I just got bac kfrom Disney and went to one of their sales pitch sessions and got tours of the model rooms at Disney World. It sounds so much better than other time shares-- you don't have to go to Disney every year... they are places all over the world and country you can use and what's nice is the points that is only good for a week at Disney is good for a two week stay at say a Sandals or somewhere in Europe. Also, what we really liked is you are not locked into a set week or time--- you go where you want when you want, provided it's available.
We were really considering it, but with a baby coming and doing work on our house, it just didn't make sense. Buying their lowest number of points (160) from them was apprixmately $17,000. this is a good deal is that is you spend approximately $3,000 a year on a vacation, it's paid off in about 6 years. although you still have to factor in air fare, theme park admission (if you go to Disney, etc.)
Also, if you have to finance, Disney doesn't go through a bank, so you have to pay their high interest rate...which i think is 10.75% (and that's with good credit!) the promo we were getting if you bought while on your vacation, you got double the amount of points you bought for one year (i.e. two vacations the first year) and $5 off the total cost of the timeshare for EACH point you purchased. FYI : DH found people on-line selling their time shares from Disney for less if you would be interested in buying from a third party.

Re: Disney Vacation Club?
We have been DVC members for almost 7 years now. We love it and just about everything about it but there are definitely a few things that could be considered negative depending on what you are looking for. FM me if you have any specific questions or want more info--I'm happy to help!

Re: Disney Vacation Club?
the bad thing about it is, right now, it expires in i believe 40 something years. where as other timeshares, they're for life and you can pass them down to your kids. that's my biggest beef. even as a cast member with a discount, we were iffy about it because of that. if you go to europe, it's completely worth it. we also didn't join because with my normal discount for regular rooms, it completely outweighs the DVC prices
