Re: Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge
It's awesome! We've stayed there twice, once in a standard room and once in a Savannah view room. No matter what, there are plenty of lookouts and spots where you can sit and see the animals, both in and around the hotel.
You must go to Boma for their breakfast buffet and try some of their African dishes. Jiko is delicious for dinner.
The shuttle always ran pretty frequently, no issues there.
If you have any specific questions, just ask. We don't have kids though, so I might be limited in that area of knowledge.
You're going to have an awesome time!

Re: Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge
We just stayed there in October when we went. We had a great time- but with the two little ones it was a little hard taking such a long ride on the shuttle to get to MK (I think about 20 minutes).. the shuttles definitely ran frequently enough- but when we stayed at the park until close it was a long wait as there were quite a few people ahead of us- and then it was standing room only- which with 2 kids, a stroller and all the "stuff" required is a little annoying. We stayed at Kidani Village- which I believe is DVC only? (not sure)... In Kidani village there is 1 restaurant- Sanaa- and it was delicious.. however, it was tough 'cause for breakfast we had to take a shuttle to the other Animal Kindgom Lodge- Jambo house- which had the breakfast buffet (which was DELISH)!!! The buffet for dinner was good for us but the selection for kids was awful.. all fried foods, no vegetables.. Because the food is Indian it is pretty spicy, so I wasn't able to give the regular "buffet" food to DS & DD- their mouths would've been on fire (mine was, and I have a high tolerance for spiced heat).
DD loved all the animals and got a kick out of all the drums... the pool was great and I'm glad we spent a day just chillin' in it!

Re: Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge
I love that hotel. DH and I stayed there 2 times (DH's 1st trip to WDW and on our honeymoon).
Jiko and Boma are both great to eat at.
Haven't been there since they built the new Villas though. I did hear it made the buses more crowded - but it is still a great hotel. I love that it is unique and we had a savannah room on our trips so it was nice to sit with a glass or wine on the balcony and watch the giraffes right outside our window.

We rented a car both times - the 1st time we drove but the second time we found we used the buses more. It is a great hotel make sure you take advantage of some of their fun activities - (storytime at the fire pit etc).

Re: Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge
Not that you need anymore recommendations, but I thought I would throw mine in also.
I've been fortunate enough to stay most every Disney resort, and Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my personal favorites. It is such a unique resort, ans as many have added, the dining on-property is excellent.
I truly don't believe you can go wrong with a stay here, as long as you realize that the resort sits a bit off the beaten path.
If you'll be staying in a savanna view room, take a pair of field glasses if you can; they make viewing the animals from your balcony extra enjoyable.
Have a great trip!

Re: Disneys Animal Kingdom Lodge
All I can say is that it's an awesome property!!
One HUGE recommendation - ask about the night vision viewing when you check in!!! It's a free evening event (nightly I believe). You will get a pair of night vision goggles and see the animals on the savannah - it's absolutely AMAZING!!!!
They used to give free night vision goggles to DVC members staying there with Savannah views but I don't know if they do that any more.
