Districts remote week of 1/3?
Home district, Hicksville just called remote for the week of 1/3. Can anyone else share if your district officially called in person or remote next week?

In-person both where I teach and where my kids attend. I wish we were remote.

Districts remote week of 1/3?
I am having flashbacks to March 2020. Once a few go remote it’s going to be like dominoes and they will all crumble. I really hope not but I don’t have a good feeling about this. They have to stay in person and give a remote option, that’s the best solution. Hire subs or have quarantined teachers teach the remote kids.

There is no such thing as "remote learning ". It does not work. Use up the snow days, call it an extra vacation but stop kidding yourself that your child is getting an education from home

Districts remote week of 1/3?
Both my school and my kids school (both catholic) are remote this week. At first I was upset but I'm not even sure we would make it past Monday anyway. Not enough adults- everyone is either positive or quarantining. I'm not feeling positive about the week of the 10th either. Only because of staffing issues. I hate remote but I will say for a week or so my kids school does a phenomenal job. Live with the teacher all day, with just a lunch break. They get their specials live as well. Not ideal, and it wouldn't work long term. But for a week they will be fine.

Districts remote week of 1/3?
In person for my work and home district.
My home district already sent out a message to be prepared to drive your kid to school because they have been short staffed in the transportation department all year.
Last year, we had to do a few days of remote learning and while not ideal, it is nothing like spring 2020. The students need to be logged on for their classes the entire time and regular instruction is happening. The only exception for my school is students do not need to log on for study halls.

What do these parents, especially ones that just took the week off for their kids do?
My district is in this week as I still get emails.
Nell is correct, kids do not get a proper education remote.

Exactly. “Remote school” is not school. I wouldn’t have my kids log on if my district did this. Absolutely ridiculous.

Districts remote week of 1/3?
The districts are doing this due to staffing. My friend is an admin in Hicksville and she said they do not have enough adults to safely supervise the students since so many teachers are sick with Covid.
This is an issue in all professionals currently: Airlines, healthcare, law enforcement, etc.

We got an email saying anticipate to return in person unless told otherwise. We haven’t heard anything else yet so I guess we are going back.
We will see how long it lasts.

Staffing is a serious problem, and it's not the districts fault. Remote learning is not ideal, but neither is cramming kids into the gym or cafeteria to sit there and do nothing all day because there are no subs. I don't envy admin at all right now- it's been a crappy situation since March 2020. I don't know what the answer is and I don't think anyone really does. Of course schools need to be open- and as long as they have enough teachers they should be. But don't be surprised if this gets worse before it gets better.

I will take a vacation before I do this remote bullshitt. She will learn more at a National Park or museum or something

Districts remote week of 1/3?
I agree that staffing is going to be an issue. But if the staff is sick then they will not be able to work at home either. They need to start being creative as there are numerous people that could take over a classroom if needed. Music, art and PE teachers all have their teaching degrees and can sub if needed. Get some administrators to sit in the classrooms and teach. The only issue with this would be specialized HS courses.

At my school, they already have secretaries subbing for absent teachers. They are pulling all teachers from duties in order to supervise classes. They are closing the library so the librarians can cover classes. I’m pretty sure districts aren’t doing whatever they can to stay open.

The same is true for teachers. My district is requiring us to go to school if we are remote and this sounds ideal until other schools start closing and teacher parents need someone to watch their kids as well. I’m lucky because my DH can work from him and my DS is pretty self sufficient so he doesn’t need to be monitored all day.

Yes, the wording says in the past 2 days positive cases of staff and students have exceeded their means to open safely. It’s a very large district.

If there are not enough adults in the building to properly supervise the children, then yes they have to.
