Do all babies/kids have playdates?
Athan has never had a playdate with a little person like him. None of our friends have kids, and the one that does has a 5 month old baby so Athan just totally ignored him and went about his business. Is it important for kids to have playdates? How do I find kids to have playdates with?

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
I personally have a ton of friends with kids (so does DH, and tons of family) so we do have alot of playdates.
I also always believed in bringing him to groups like Gymboree and Music Together. I like the social aspects (For both him and myself ) and it does teach them things such as sharing, clean up, transition to another activity etc.

Do you go to any programs at your library? Or do you go to any parks? Those are good ways to meet other moms with little ones.
Do you live on LI? This site is how I've met several mommies/kids who we have playdates with

I have never been on a playdate with Andrew!! We have been around friends with kids but they are all mostly younger or older then him.
I do think it is important but I am shy so it is hard. But him and his little bf in school will be getting together for a playdate soon

No... we live outside of Wash, DC in Virginia. I wish I were still up on LI though because there are so many mommies and babies that I would love to meet in person. I will look into classes or something that I can do with him on the weekends down here. I would love to see his reaction to another little person

For me, DD much prefers older kids than kids her own age So even if they're older, he'd like it.
Do they have a similar-type site down there that you know of?

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
We've done a couple of the LIF GTGs. None of our friends really have kids and the one couple that does has a 6 month old and as you said Kaydyn could care less. I'm hoping once the warmer weather comes to be able to meet some mommies with kids that Kaydyn can play with.
Myabe look online and see if there is a meetup site for moms and kids in the DC area. Or maybe join something like My Gym or something and you'll meet moms that way.

I don't want to joing another site down here. I feel if I join a site here I will be "from" here - if that makes sense - and I don't want to be. I miss NY and I miss LI and you ladies are my only tie there. Pretty pathetic, huh? I am having a day. Sorry!

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
In all seriousness Maria... Look into the newsletters from the library.... there are always (at least here there are) tons of 'classes' so that the kids can mingle.
Also, not sure if you are interested in this, but you can always look into Gymboree's classes.
Kristiina went to a free class, and she LOVED it. It was a great opportunity for her to meet children also, and also a great opportunity for me to meet other mommies!!!!

Same thing here, on both accounts.
We have never been on a playdate and it is because I am shy as well.
But I really want to really start having some playdates and do more with her

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
Playdates saved my life.
I still have about 2/3 playdates a week. A chance for me to unwind with my friends, and a chance for Noah to play with his friends. At 1, I think its pretty important for kids tostart playing with other kids around the same age. They start to play sort of around each other, and that will lead to playing with each other.
Find yourself a playdate!!! You will enjoy it also!

Playdates saved my life.
ITA! I met so many wonderful people through playdates and their help and friendship have been invaluable.
I adore my playdate mommies and their children! I love how they inquire about Lucas and know us so well.

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
i am the vice president of a moms club (the western suffolk chapter) if you go to momsclub.org you can find one near you. we do activities, playdates, and also can set up a weekly playgroup for your DC with kids his age. FM if you need more info, if your in lindenhurst amityville copiague farmingdale or massapequa you would be in my chapter but if not just go that website. i feel its important for kids to have playdates and interact with others. Once they go to preschool or regular school they will need these social skills. sometimes kids dont always play together and they "parallel play" but its still interacting and eventually they do play together. this has happend to us but I have notice more and more times we get together with others my kids have learned to make friend on their own and be social.

Unfortunantly I don't live on LI now. We live in Virgina - right outside of Washington, DC.

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
wait... playdates?
Damn... I dont have those.
Weekdays are impossible and I feel like the weekend is the only time *I* get with her!!!!
We have one couple who has a baby who's just 2months older than her. We visit about 1/2 a month.
They ignore eachother mostly.
But I guess that's what daycare's for?

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
I didnt start doing playdates until my sons were in preschool and they took a liking to a certain kid in class- but before that I only had playdates with family-my kids have a TON of cousins. If you are looking for your son to have a playdate, I think joing Gymboree or something in that order would be the best way.

Re: Do all babies/kids have playdates?
another site you could check out is meetup.com---I belong to 2 moms groups in NJ (I also knew no other moms near by!) and have met some great people---we not only do playdates, but also sometimes brunch or dinner on the weekend at kid friendly places. I never thought I would meet anyone and also miss home a lot, so I understand

I was going to suggest meetup.com as well. There are so many groups, there has to be one in your community! I only found meetup.com because I joined stroller strides which has their own meetup website. Stroller strides is a lot of fun too! There should be a group in your location as well. I've made a lot of friends and had playdates with them.
It makes the days go so much faster when you spend your time around others! And the kids love it too!
