I get them from the dollar store. I asked Aeropostale if they had boxes...they were selling them for $10!! 
  For how many?

William Sonoma gives out boxes, and Tiffany has those nice blue boxes.
On a side note, the boxes probably cost between $.30 and $.75 apiece depending on size, print, etc. including shipping them into the various stores. Considering how many they could give out during a day that money could add up to hiring one or two more salespeople and I'd rather see someone have a job and have more help on the selling floor than to get a free box. It's usually a hassle to carry the flat, unfolded box around anyway.
Sure, that would be nice... I hope that's why they're not giving out boxes.
Lol - I don't think I'd be able to give someone one of those Tiffany boxes and watch the disapointment when they actually opened my gift

I wouldn't have a problem with stores charging for boxes... reasonably priced of course - $10 is obviously crazy, but I consider stores that give them for free as providing an extra service to customers and I wouldn't see it as mandatory... If they want to give them for free that's great, but I wouldn't expect them to... They're not getting them for free so I don't mind them charging... Especially when other stores (target, dollar store) actually sell gift boxes... Do they also have to supply shoppers with rolls of wrapping paper and bows as well because they choose to shop for gifts at their store? (Some stores do provide gift-wrapping service for free, while others charge for it or don't supply the service at all - again, I just consider that as an extra level of service and wouldn't expect it as mandatory)... Just my 2 cents.
I'm not referring to anyone on this thread I just find the discussion interesting and am speaking generally.

Call me crazy, but I buy them end of season every year and keep them on hand for gifts thru out the year. It makes my life easier. Usually at walmart I get 10 boxes of various sizes at the end of season sale for about .40 cents!

I actually had not had a problem this year yet. We shopped at Macys, AE, Aerie,
ON has always charged for them. I never buy them there.
Vera Bradley gave me bags and tissue paper.
But I am in MA. Maybe it would be different in NY

I save them each year after xmas... or I get them at the dollar store. Also... this year I bought a huge pack that had different sizes in it.

This is how stores are able to cut costs. Even for something as cheap as a box, it adds up! If they raised prices of their product to pay for these boxes, customers would complain about that too.
You can't win!
I save boxes throughout the year, or I just wrap things not in a box. It can still look nice, and less waste too

Honestly, we save boxes from each year and reuse them unless they are ripped/torn.
