Do DC play with their backyard swingset?

DS is 2 and I'm preggo right now. We're looking to buy a swingset for the spring. I'm curious how long children typically play with a swingset (especially in this age of technology) so we can try to budget ourselves.

Personally, I remember playing on swingsets until about 10, I think.Chat Icon

Re: Do DC play with their backyard swingset?

My son rarely plays with his and I kind of wish I hadn't bought it. He's six now and has had it for three years and even when he was three, he rarely played on it unless he had a play date. He's an only child, so there's not usually anyone around for him to play with.

Not sure but, I have a 5 yr old and a 2.5 yr old and it is used VERY often! MY DS and his friends spend alot of time on it for playdates as well (5 yr old). Maybe it depends on the type of swingset? We have a creative playthings swingset and it has three swings, monkey bars, a tree/house/fort, picnic table, phone, binoculars and a periscope.

Mine was 2 when we bought it last summer, just turned three and he would live on it if we would let him. The telescope and wheel are a big hit, although I have a few gray hairs from the rock wall which he can now propel down.

Robbie is 11 and Noah is 9. They rarely use the 'swings' anymore.. but they will use the fort and they will climb ON the swing set when they are playing whatever game they play.

The swing sees a lot of action from guests and at parties though..

Re: Do DC play with their backyard swingset?

I'm hoping we get more use this year... we've had ours since dd was 3 shes 5 now and only plays on it when someone is here & that's not often. By the time she was able to swing with me pushing her she was in camp f/t and not even home to use it. Between sports/school/camp/weather/vacations we're never in our backyard.

I guess if you already spend a lot of time in your yard & have other kids around it may get more use.

ds will be old enough to use it more independently this year so I'm hoping together they will use it more.

DS does use it but I think he would play on it more if he had a sibling to be with. It is still very much worth it, especially on a nice weekend day if we are at home.

5&7 they still do. But DH does things like rigs a big kiddie pool to the bottom of the slide, etc

The 7 year old wasn't a huge swing fan - 5 year old still loves them.

DS is 11 DD is 5 & they play on it all the time. It has a rock wall to climb, 2 slides, 3 swings, tire swing, and a canopy covered platform (top of slides) that they use for a fort. Its definitely and investment for us.
