do formula fed babies sleep better ?
I have heard this and was just wondering because Natalie still at 6 weeks has only slept 4 hrs at a time once in a while. She usually wakes up every 2 hrs most of the night. I EBF.

My babies are 6 weeks old and they are formula fed. Only now are they sleeping better between feedings, average is about 3-4 hours at a time.

DS was BF & he was sleeping well by 12 weeks. He would only wake up once a night by 8 weeks.

I think they do only because they take in more formula at a time and it's more filling. At that age I don't remember how long DD slept, but I'm pretty sure she only got up once a night at that point. Then around 2.5 months old, she was sleeping all night.

From my personal experience, I think it is an old wives tale. My DS was always formula fed and actually didn't sleep through the night til he was 1 and actually drinking milk.
I think it really depends on the baby.

Formula-fed babies will sleep longer because formula takes longer to be digested in the belly...thereby holding them over longer.
BM is digested by the body much faster - usually within 2-3hrs. This is usually why BF babies will wake sooner.

I don't think it's a question of sleeping through an entire night, but rather sleeping longer stretches. Most BF babies eat every 1.5 to 2 hours in the beginning from what I've read.

DD is FF and 6 weeks old, last night she went 7 hours, prior to that it was 6 hours. She's sleeping now and I really should be.
I think every baby is different... I've even heard of BF babies having gas issues which is usually heard of more with FF.

My niece is the same as your DD, but my kids both didn't till they were a year all EBF. I think it really depends on the kid.

I don't believe it unless maybe you are having supply issues- My dd was EBF and even when we came home from the hospital would sleep 3-4 hour stretches- then she slept from 9-4 or even 5 starting at 5 weeks. She actually wakes more now as an almost 1 year old than she did the first 6 months. When I started supplementing formula b.c I had trouble pumping when we went out for the day - I tried a few nights to give her a bottle of formula instead of BFing and she didn't sleep any longer than she does when I BF every night.

I don't believe it at all. My son was sleeping through the night at 10 weeks and was EBF at that point. Eventually started supplementing w/ formula... nothing changed except his poops, lol!!! I've heard way too many exceptions to the rule on both sides to feel like there's any "rule" in place at all. Depends on the baby!!!

My DD is BF and has slept through the night since about 6 weeks. She always had to be woken to eat in the beginning and now at 3 months she sleeps at least 10 hrs a night straight through.

my DD was formula feed she would wake up every 3 hrs... my DS was Brestfed- from a bottel I pumped.. and woke up every 3 hrs.... I personaly dont think it makes a diff, the baby makes the diff
