Do I cancel my cycle?

I think I know what I'm doing but looking for reassurance.
I literally have 2 hours now to decide if I want to cancel my IUI cycle. Thought if I slept on it I would know for sure when I woke up but I am finding myself second guessing it now.
Just some background information, we have been trying to conceive since October 2013 and in January I had my first IUI. Happily it worked but I lost the baby at 8 weeks (all test came back unexplained loss).
This is my first IUI since the loss and this time around the clomid has helped me to create many more "ready to go" eggs. My doctor has already discussed the 1% chance of multiples (don't remember if the 1% is twins or more OR more then twins). If I do conceive more then two I will be faced with reduction (which is done at 12 weeks and can put the remaining baby/babies at risk). I have wanted a child for so long and twins don't scare me. The scary part is going through the reduction.
So... what would you do?
The doctor is pretty sure I'll get pregnant and also pretty sure I'll have multiples... just no way of knowing how many that actually is. Do I stop it now or see what's install for me?

ETA: So I did it! I spoke with my RE again and yes she'd normally advise canceling however given my age and my road to conceiving it was ultimately my choice. DH and I also had intercourse in the past 4 days so naturally I had a chance of conceiving myself.
She explained that many OB'S give out clomid like it's candy and those cycles are not monitored as mine was so who is to say I would get multiples since most do not with Clomid/IUI.
I decided to put that in someone else's hands...
Thank you for the feedback!
Now to begin the 2ww!!!

ETA 2: IUI worked and I'm currently 6w4d prego with 1 baby!!! After all that worry! Now hoping it sticks!

Personally I would cancel the cycle because I would not want to have to make a decision to reduce as it is dangerous for all involved. However, I am shocked that your Dr is not the one telling you to cancel and is going through with the iui given the amount of eggs he says you have. IMO the Dr is being irresponsible.

Re: Do I cancel my cycle?

Nobody can tell you what to do. But I can tell you what I did.

I had 5 perfect ready to go follicles when the IUI I did worked (Which sadly didn't work out) They gave me the same information, but truth be told the chance of all of them taking was very slim. Though I was willing to go ahead with reduction if need be.

I took the chance. I know people who had a lot more Follies and only had one.

What does your SO say?

I'm sorry your IUI didn't work!
At first my DH said no and that he didn't want to go through reduction but he avoids anything like this... even funerals.
Once I explained how after this if I couldn't get pregnant again I would always wonder "what if" he changed his mind and said to do it.

I don't believe my RE would allow me to go through a cycle if it was dangerous. Ever RE is different but she needs to give me the worst outcome if she didn't warn me that would be a disservice.

Re: Do I cancel my cycle?

why are they pretty sure you'll have multiples??

i cant tell you what to do, however when i thought about that when i did IUIs, i figured its a 1-3% chance of multiples, and considering i had gone 1+ years of not getting pregnant, that it was worth the risk.

just make sure you are OK with multiples and you decision about selective reduction (or not doing it).

I'm a true believer in whatever happens was meant to happen, so....

good luck!!!!

Because of the amount of follicles the chances of twins is a little higher. I really think she's just preparing me because there are more then 5 ready.
I'm usually all about "what will be will be" so that's where I'm trying to keep my head at.
Thanks!!!

Re: Do I cancel my cycle?

You have 5 mature follicles? I'm surprised your RE will even do an IUI if you have 5 mature follicles because of the chance of multiples.

It's a personal decision for you.

Re: Do I cancel my cycle?

If it was me, I would cancel the cycle. I would worry too much about the possibility of multiples and the need for selective reduction. I wouldn't want to get pregnant and have to reduce, risking all the babies. For me, part of that answer is based on the info you've given us. The fact that you were able to get pregnant with your first IUI (I'm sorry that ended in a MC) and have responded so well to the clomid make me think that you would have good outcomes in a different cycle with less follicles as well. If you were someone with poor egg quality or other issues my answer would probably be different.
Best of luck to you whatever you decide. It's a personal decision and you have to do what you feel is best for you. Chat Icon

I would do it. I have been trying the same amount of time as you with no success at all, I figure the more target the more of a chance.

It sounds like your RE had solid reasons for letting you go through with the cycle which is why they are the experts and not us! lol Good luck! I hope this cycle brings you good things!

I think you made a good choice. I did 3 IUI's with clomid done by my OB and was not monitored. at 36 I figured the chances of me having multiples was slim. They didnt work though and the last one sent me to the ER witha ruptured cyst. So im off to RMA in a few weeks for consult and testing hopefully.

Hopefully this IUI works for you!!

Thanks everyone!

Peainapod - I never knew an OB could do IUI. And I always thought IUI was monitored because they need to time Ovadril. I have heard of OB's prescribing clomid but in that case you have relations on your own.
I think going to an RE us a great decision and I wish you all the luck!!!
I just moved to RMA because I have new insurance and my previous RE didn't take this insurance. I'm seeing Dr. Beth McAvey. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
