Do I have to serve alcohol at DD's birthday?

Do I have to have beers and such at DD's birthday party? I don't drink, so I wouldn't miss it. Nobody in my immediate family drinks, so they probably won't miss it...but what about other people...will they expect it?

I would like to skip it...but will people be annoyed?

Its your party...if you want to skip it you should. As far as people being annoyed they can't drink at a first birthday party then they got major issuesChat Icon

Re: Do I have to serve alcohol at DD's birthday?

First of all you are the host so you can do whatever you want. We did have alcohol at DD's firts birthday but we always serve alcohol at get togethers. To be honest not a lot of people drank as it was the middle of the day and everyone was driving so there was one designated driver from each family.

You do whatever you feel comfortable doing.

It's your party and you can do whatever you want. We had beers at Matthew's 1st birthday party. Our immediate family will drink a few beers but we didn't get much and we still had left overs.

We got flavored snapples (in the cans) and those went fast. They were a hit! Chat Icon Very refreshing for this type of weather. My son's party was on June 2 and it was hot!

I would think if it is mainly adults you should have alcohol, I have never been to a party without it. People look forward to that when they get out with there kids, assuming there is a designated driver (usually the women !)

We're having DD's b-day in our backyard and have no intention of serving alcohol. We never do so I think people will probably excpect that.

Yes...it's in our backyard. We live in NJ, and most people are coming from LI, so they will be driving. We don't host many parties, so I don't know what the norm is.

I think I will skip it. Thanks.Chat Icon

IT's a child's birthday party. Anyone who "expects" alcohol to be served should find something else to do.

DH & I don't drink either, and have never served alcohol in our home. If there is anyone I think who might be expecting it I let them know ahead of time that we won't be serving anything. It's never been an issue.

ETA: We had a BBQ last weekend and some of the guests brought wine and beer, which we put out for them. We just choose not to purchase it on our own.

No its not necessary. However, I think all my firends and family must be lushes because every gathering for us becomes an excuse to drink wine!Chat Icon

We serve beer & wine at our birthday BBQs. Mainly because DH & his friends are beer drinkers at BBQs. My family & friends don't drink or drink very little.

You're the host. If I showed up at your house asking you for pomegranate juice, it doesn't mean you have to have it for me. When you host a party you take into account what people drink. It's up to you whether you want to opt for it.

I agree based on your guests driving a long way, I'd skip it.

Re: Do I have to serve alcohol at DD's birthday?

I have been to many family BBQ's and there is usually beer...but it's the same few people who are always drinking it Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH and I decided to skip it. We have to rent a tent because we have no trees in our yard...thus no shade. The $$$ will go towards the tent instead of booze Chat Icon

Thanks!

Re: Do I have to serve alcohol at DD's birthday?

Its in your home, I would def have a cooler filled with beer. Some people like to have a nice cold beer at home partys.
