do I sound cheap?!- updated on page 2
I have a friend, we were closer years ago, and she's pregnant. she doesn't really have any family at all in NY. He SIL are throwing her a shower, but it's not what she wants. They're throwing her a very typical, casual backyard type of shower. She wants something more non-traditional. So one of my close friends is looking into throwing her a "friends" shower. It's going to be on a Friday night at a tappas bar. It will basically be $60pp, including tax and tip. Preggo friend's DH is willing to put in $600, and with 20 guests it will end up running us $30pp. OK, that's not the problem. My friend sent out an email saying it would be no more than $150 a girl. Where the he!! did she come up with that number? I don't mean to sound like brat, but why the heck should I have to put in $150 for a baby shower?! It's not a bridal shower and it's not a bachelorette party. I feel like she's an ungrateful bi@tch that she would even expect us to throw a shower like this for her when her SIL are throwing one.
Please tell me if I'm out of line, because right now I'm livid. And I can't lie... I'm sure some of it stems from the fact that this girl hasn't ever gone out of her way on my behalf. Not that I would EVER expect someone to do such a thing for me.
ETS- And PS, if anyone reads the Relationship Board, the bride I just posted about is the friend who's looking to "throw" this baby shower.

I don't know where she came up with that number. To be honest, the only thing I can think of is if she wanted to get a stripper. And if that's the case I WILL NOT GO. That's just insane.

what the f***!? what kind of baby shower would cost $150 per person?! sorry, i won't be going to that shower 
i just think it's rude for someone to throw themselves (in this case - another friend) a party and have someone else flip the bill, like the baby gift is not enough already 
one shower is not enough? i would just send her the gift and call it a day.

OK that is ridiculous. You are definitely not cheap.
Honestly I've never heard of having to pay to go to a baby shower unless you are throwing it yourself. $30 fine maybe even $50 or $60 but $150 ridiculous

uhhhhhhhhh no! it sounds like she worked in favors, decorations and everything..she is just organizing, she isn;t throwing the shower---you all are...
send a gift and stay home...thats ********...
sounds liike my dh family---they do nothing and you do everything 24-7

That is ridiculous. I am sure the other girls who are going to have to shell out the $$$ are probably thinking the same way you are. I still dont understand what type of shower she wants anyway? Are you guys going to the shower the SIL is throwing?
ETA: IMO she is aleady getting a shower. If you guys want to take her out to dinner and split the bill (to pay for her portion) and buy her a couple of extra little gifts that would be nice. I dont think she needs a whole other shower where you are shelling out all that money. She is being greedy. And not for nothing...she is pregnant. Why would she want to go to a bar/strip club type environment anyway?
This whole thing is very odd to me. Sorry you are dealing with this.

I love this statement and totally agree.
It's too much to ask of anyone - $150  and then are you still obligated to buy a gift? What about the shower her SIL is throwing...are you going to be expected to attend that with a gift as well? That's a lot.

That is so tacky and nervy!
For my bridal shower and baby shower I did not put any demands on anyone. If anything I keep asking everyone who were involved in the planning if they need assistance with cash or anything. They did not need it and they all gave me beautiful showers which I truly appreciated because they did not have to do anything for me.

I would go to the backyard shower and have something else to do the night of the other shower. The friend who is throwing this shower is on crack. It's bad enough she's sucking you dry for her wedding, now for this shower too? It's simply too much.....
