Do people really have roosters??
There is a house by my apt that house a rooster. It cocka-doodle-dos every morning the same time (yes this time 5:30 am). I wanna be annoyed about it but it CRACKS ME UP

yup, people really do. I have seven chickens, but they are all hens-no roosters. Two of my neighbors have roosters, one lives about 5 blocks away & I can here them in the morning. The other neighbor lives a little too far away for me to hear his, but at one point he had FOUR roosters. I can imagine the neighbors close by getting POd.

There is a guy in my neighborhood that has a rooster. When I walk the dog early in the a.m. and the weather is nicer I can hear it crowing....thankfully he's at least ten minutes away so he's not waking me up.

there was a guy i knew who had quite a few along with chickens - he used to claim farming on his property taxes and saved a BUNDLE - that could be why? or he just likes roosters!

While we were househunting in NC, we saw an AWESOME house and we were ready to sign on the dotted line. DH and I were standing in the backyard talking, when all of a sudden, a rooster walked to the top of a hill separating that house from the next, and started crowing!!
We looked at each other and both said, "NEXT!!!!"

I had three ducks--no roosters...
and the ducks molested me..I don't want to talk about it...lol

we had a couple for a little while when i was growing up....cause being the ONLY hispanic family on the block didn't make us stick out ENOUGH for my dad--he needed roosters and hens.

My area is ZONED for farming..(Im in Nesconset!!!) you can claim farming on your property taxes if you have chickens BUT you have to have a rooster in order to do so!!!! You could have 20 chickens but no rooster and your property wouldnt qualify...
DH said that if he didnt like our neighbors so much he'd go out and buy us some chickens!!!

Yes, when I lived in Queens there was a house on 69th st in Maspeth that had roosters. It was the strangest thing!

this is a weird unfortunate grey area, its zoned for farming where I live too, but there is also a newer public code that says you can't have a rooster in a residential area, I think the town of brookhaven code says something like all the houses in the area have to be on an acre or more. Like I said lots of my neighbors have roosters anyway, I only have hens because I don't like to break the rules.

aaawww, drakes can be mean, but ducks in general are nice. They are just really messy.
