Do we ever get over 2' of snow in LI?

How many feet of snow does LI get? Do we ever get over 2 feet of snow? A foot would do but it would be nice to see 2 feet or more once....

We did a few yrs ago. It was not pleasant. If you are into snow it was great I do not share that excitement therefore it was more of a PITA.

It happens, but I think it's rare. Something to do with the wind off the ocean or something.

I live on the South Shore and worked for quite a few years on the North Shore and the North Shore seems to get more accumulation for some reason.

The snowiest winter gave us about 7.5 feet total, for the entire season combined.

Re: Do we ever get over 2' of snow in LI?

These are the record snowfalls for Long Island

1 24.0 2/17/2003
2 18.0 1/8/1996
3 15.0 2/6/1978
4 14.8 1/20/1961
5 14.5 2/21/1947
6 14.0 1/20/1978, 2/4/1961, 2/16/1958
9 13.0 2/25/1990
10 12.0 2/11/1994

So, to answer your question - it's rare to get two feet, but a foot or more isn't crazy.

We have before. I remember the winter of 95-96 being especially snowy. And its true, the north shore always gets a little more accumulation than the south shore.

Funny you say that at the time I was working in International relocations and we had an office for clearings in Alaska. In 1996 I remember that office in Barstow telling us that we had more snow than they did that year. Chat Icon I remember him talking about that they might face a drought that spring because we were stealing all of their snow Chat Icon
