Do you answer the door at night for deliveries?
So the other night a guy came banging on my door and was saying "UPS!", but I didn't answer it. I was expecting a package, but DH wasn't home and it was almost 7pm so I decided not to answer it. He banged on the door probably 5 or 6 times.
He ended up leaving the package at our apartment door.
I've never done that, but for some reason I was kinda afraid to open the door. I felt stupid after, but DH said he actually was glad I didn't answer it if they were just going to leave it anyway.
Anyone ever do that?

I have done that but in my house, I can see who's at my door because of the glass on the doors. lol

I dont get deliveries at night....only Peapod and that I can see the big truck right outside my window when they pull up.

i haven't had that happen - DH has always been home or when i get home it is already left at my door. i have had it where the guy came during the day - and i answered - i saw the truck and him in the uniform.
i think you did the right thing - you never know and there was no harm, no foul b/c he left the package so if his voice and the banging scared you (i would have felt the same way if DH wasn't home) then i wouldn't have answered it either.
sometimes i just don't feel like dealing with them lol and if i know for sure that they will leave it then i don't answer hahah

I've never gotten deliveries at night (except food, of course), but if I did get something that late I would've done the same as you. I got a knock on the door early one morning and Kevin wasn't up yet, I wasn't going to answer it but then noticed the oil truck at the end of our driveway, he was making a delivery and needed access to the backyard.

if I was expecting something- and can see the truck outside my window then yes
but they only delivers I ever get at night are fresh direct and my laundry guy- I am not afriad of either one (or anything really- it's bad I guess- but I gernally don't fear much)

I won't even answer the door for a food delivery. If I'm alone and hungry for takeout - I'll go out in negative three degree weather, or starve before opening the door for takeout. It really freaks me out.

I always have the screen/glass door locked -
So if I open the front door, I can see/speak to you, but you can't just open the door and come in -

I used to answer the door when I lived at my moms because we had the same ups guy for years, plus the fact that we have 3 big bernese mountain dogs barking and peeping the heads at the door behind me, lol.

Yeah, I never answer the door when I'm home alone with DD, my UPS guys are nice though, they just ring the doorbell once then drive away.

I get UPS deliveries and pickups as late as 8pm, but they never bang on the door and wait for me to answer unless I have to sign for it and in that case, I usually know what & when it's coming and I make sure to look out the window to see the truck.
BUT FWIW, FedEx sometimes has their employees use their own vehicles when things are busy. One time there was a knock at the door and I couldn't figure out who was in my driveway with a suburban. Turned out it was FedEx and he explained to me how he had to use his private vehicle.

Same here. By the time I look through the window to see who it is, I see the truck pulling away.
I ALWAYS look/peek out our dining room window. If I don't see a truck, I don't answer.

After he left the package at the door I was wondering why he was banging so many times if I didn't even have to sign for it.

Yup! I've done it!! BTW....I HATE how hard they bang on the door! It scares the crap out of me. That is part of the reason why I don't want to answer it. lol. I understand they want to make their presence known by banging and yelling "UPS" but like you said Jess, they leave it anyway so just ring the bell and leave it!!!!
