Do you buy the same items...
but in different colors? Such as a handbag?
Or do you tell yourself 1 is enough and move onto another style or brand?

handbags - never.
I get bored easily as is. Two of the same in different colors would be a waste for me.
Things like sneakers then yes.

velour sweats yes
bras definitely
heels- definitely- black and brown
purse- probably - like id be willing to get the epi alma in addition to the monogram alma i own

I change my answer I was really only thinking of shoes and bags 
I agree with the sweaters, tshirts, bras, velour sweats. Heels... probably not.

Yup, for most of my clothes, actually. Then I have the nerve to complain that they are boring.
But the bags are a variety of colors and styles.

Depends....
sweater or shirts - yes if it fits good and is good quality
pants - yes
coat/jacket - no
bras - yes, although I mainly stick to nude color
shoes - yes!
handbag/purse - no

usually. If I really like something and it fits right, I purchase multiples
ETA- not handbags though. @ least I haven't done it yet, but I will never say never.

shoes - yes (black & brown probably)
bags- usually NO however, I do have one bag I got for really cheap in two colors. I used both and will sell the one on ebay I like the least.

Yeah, I would agree on this. If it a classic style of shirt/pants/sweater I will get it in a few different colors.
Anything that has a unique design to it should remain in only one color in my wardrobe.
