Do you consider yourself a moral person?

With all this talk about morality, do you consider yourself to be a moral person. I do. I am sometimes stunned by all the immorality out there. I can't imagine doing some of those things. Don't get me wrong, I have had my share of wild times- experimented with different things. But nothing like what is going in the world.

If I am the one defining morality - than I certainly think I am a moral person.

I do consider myself to be moral. But I'm not always a good person. If that makes sense.

Yes I do...I was going to word it the other way around though. I consider myself a good person but some times my morals are a little bit "toeing the line" so to speak...But all in all my morals are good. They have to be...I have so many little ones watching me and learning from me.

Re: Do you consider yourself a moral person?

I don't profess to be the most moral person on the earth; I'm human and have made/will continue to make mistakes. But I do believe I'm an ethical, morally conscious indivudal who tries to be good. Does that make sense?

Whose morals?

Mine are probably looser than most.
In general - maybe even by mine I haven't done so great in the morality department.

Re: Do you consider yourself a moral person?

Yes.

I got it from my dad.

Case in point - I was 10 years old with my friend in the library. Put change into the soda machine, got a soda, and the machine spit out double my money back at me.

Friend and I were joking about it in the car ride home with my father.

Said father turned the car around, drove up to the library, and made me walk to the librarian and return the money.

She commented on how no one else would have done the same. NO KIDDING! Chat Icon

Point of story - sometimes I'm overly moral, if there's such a thing. I follow the rules TOO closely, and DH teases me relentlessly for it.

Re: Do you consider yourself a moral person?

I think this is a subjective question that can't really be answered.

How can we judge morality? Maybe my take on it is different then the woman sitting next to me in my work cubicle. For that matter the her opinion of morality could differ from someone else too...

Compared to someone like Ted Bundy, sure I'd say I have a high standard of morals. But compared to Mother Teresa, I'd say, not quite.

I just think it's not something that can be answered in a yes or no answer.

Re: Do you consider yourself a moral person?

I hope I am moral...

I'm reasonably liberal with my politics, but super-conservative with my personal lifestyle. I do not lie... not even a white lie. If I find something valuable, I make a sincere effort to return it to its rightful owner every time. I never try to skirt around laws, or attempt to obtain something I am not fully entitled to receive. I also am fully open with DH, friends and family with things that concern them.

I find that living this way prevents many headaches. I don't have to remember who I lied to if I never did Chat Icon

Re: Do you consider yourself a moral person?

I try to live a life that allows me to look at myself in the mirror and feel good about what I see (at least BEHIND my eyes)

I am a human being. I am hardwired to make mistakes...do the wrong thing at times, and even if I DO the right thing...struggle with that little voice inside me telling me to take the other road...the darker path.

Morality is both subjective (what you feel is right) but it also pits your beliefs against anothers subjective moral code...and who is the more righteous?

admitting to mistakes...even being ashamed of some of the things you've done, does not an "immoral" person make.

being "good" all the time also does not essentially make you moral. it depends on the reasons you make the "good" choice. your motivations can be completely WHACKED and morally reprehensible...but we look at and judge the actions instead of taking it further.

I am honestly more leery of people that are constantly good...the same reason I never quite liked Spitzer...there is something about the "morally" just that doesn't sit right with me.

we all have a little devil inside us...I prefer those who've had to face that devil at least once...it keeps you honest IMO

Re: Do you consider yourself a moral person?

I know what is right and wrong sometimes doing the right thing is harder but I would like to think in most situations I did the right thing. Some of the things I see people do to get an extra $1 would make it hard for to sleep at night.

I actually fell out with a girl because of what happened when she bought movie tickets. She paid for a movie ticket with a $100 bill the woman at the ticket counter gave her the change so about $90 plus she accidentally gave her the $100 back my friend kept it later on she bragged about how she was paid $90 to watch a movie. I told her she basically stole the money because she took what she knew did not belong to her. I felt so bad for the poor woman that probably lost her job because of this mistake.

YES YES YES. I too got it from my father. Sometimes I think I am too honest. Maybe I should try to be a little more sinister and step on some toes....

Re: Do you consider yourself a moral person?

I definitely consider myself to be a moral person. I always try to do what I believe is the "right" thing, which of course, is subjective. I have very high expectations for myself and those close to me. I think the least moral thing I ever did was cheat on a test in junior high school.
