Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

4 hours does not seem like a long trip to me, especially by myself.

Now, with the kids that is probably my threshold unless DH is with us.

But if it was just me and no kids, I would do any amount of driving, no issues. Bring some tunes or a book on CD-sounds like a great trip! I used to drive back and forth to college-9 hours away.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

Years ago, I drove from Seattle to Vancouver by myself. Not sure how far that is but it's the furthest I've driven alone.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

I went to college 3 hours away so when I would come home or go back, I'd usually be by myself. Sometimes the trip took about 4-5 hours with traffic.

I wouldn't be opposed to going longer and I wouldn't be scared... just lonely!

Yes. I went to college 4+ hours away and now I live 3+ hours away from my parents. I am usually fine with it, but do fear breaking down or getting into an accident (which happened in December when my tire blew out and then my car did a 360 into the guard rail - luckily I was uninjured and 15 minutes from home when it happened.)

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

I've done it many times. I've actually done 20+ hour drives on my own before.
I'm a confident driver, I have GPS, I have my cell phone. I don't have any issues with it at all. Plus, I love a good road trip. Chat Icon

ETA: I actually have a road trip planned with my 2 young children for this November... I'll be driving from WI to NY by myself (with my 2 babes).

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

No, it's never come up where I've had to do it, but if I did I'm sure I'd be okay. I'd be a little worried about breaking down or getting in an accident though.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

Yes, I would drive solo but I would sooo much prefer a place I've been to before (to avoid getting lost) and to drive on the weekends (to avoid all the NYC congestion).

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

I have a few times...but I am not crazy about it and try to avoid it, esp now that DD is driving around with me most of the time - I feel less comfy with her with me.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

I do alot of driving when I'm on the road for work.

2 weeks ago I drove 1085 miles around Kansas
This past week I drove from Omaha to western Nebraska & all over about 1060 miles.

I am used to it now - always have satellite radio so Howard Stern keeps me company, check out the scenery (cows mainly) and try to make the best of it.

When I'm home, I barely drive at all DH does most of it esp. b/c we have just 1 car.

I've done few hour long trips several times by myself. Right at this moment I would not, only because my car is very, very old and unreliable. Once I get a new car though, I won't mind.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

Never Chat Icon I get lost VERY easily, I have no sense of direction. So I would be to afraid to go solo, unless I really had to.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

Personally, I don't consider 4 hours a long drive. 19 hours to Lexington, KY - that's a long drive. I drive everywhere all the time. I have no issues with it, and have been known to drive from LI to Philly to get a genuine cheesesteak and turn around and drive back.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

I've driven to Albany, Boston (and a town a little further) and from Spring Hill Fla to Hollywood (about 4 hrs) alone. All when I was single. I don't know when as a married woman with 2 kids I'd actually have an opportunity to do that again.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

Back when I was in college Id rove to and from Buffalo for my breaks. It takes about 7-8 hrs. Never had a problem! I hated it because I hate long drives and my car didn't have a CD player and there are no radio stations on the way... But other than that I was fine!

I've driven cross country 3 times with others though, never alone. I drive for work all the time so yes. Never been scared really except after 9-11 the b ridges were freaking me out.

I used to do it all the time, but now I don't really need to anymore. I LOVE driving so it was fun for me. I never stressed about it...looked forward to the time alone actually.

When I was single, I drove all over by myself. Maine, Virginia, upstate. I loved road trips and would have had no issue with even longer trips.

Re: Do you drive long distances alone?

I live on Cape Cod and drive with my 6 yr old DS to long island to visit my family quite often. At 1st I was nervous about it, but I have AAA and a cell phone and now have no issues!
