do you ever feel that you "butcher" ethnic food?
i know that there is a good mix of different ethnicities, on this board.
i'm just wondering if you ever feel that what your family loves, or a recipe that you love of another ethnicity's food, is butchering the authentic stuff?
i'm cuban/dominican. SO is mexican. we've got that covered... but when we make dishes that are from other parts of the world, i sometimes wonder if someone from there would laugh to see what we do to their beloved foods
just wondering if any one else has had these thoughts lol
i guess i have a little too much time on my hands, this morning

Oh I completely "butcher" other culture food my main example is the other day DH wanted spaghetti with meat sauce and fried plantain.. I think if an italian seen the combination would take pasta away from us and tell us never to try that again lol

YES!!!
I'm 100% Italian, so I've got the Italian food covered...
DH is 100% Dominican and I really feel like I fail him in the food department! LOL I try and he seems to enjoy it, but I know that it in no way compares to his Mom's authentic Dominican food!

Yeah, our :Chinese" & "Mexican" are vaguely inspired by their ethnicities as best, but I feel that 's ok, b/c I am just borrowing those flavors.
The saddest part is that I am an Italian girl that can't make a meatball!
I'm really best at American stuff, but even my blackened pork chops, which DH loves, I am not sure experts would say is authentic, but we like it.
