that scares me too!!
i NEVER open the door when i dont know who it is. i didnt even open before DS was born. we get a lot of teenagers on our block selling things and even then i just say "no thank you" through the door--and that is only when i know they clearly saw me (you can see my kitchen from the front door)..otherwise i ignore them until they go away.
just last week this random man was banging on my front door - yes banging. my TV was on, which i know he could see, but i just ignored him until he went away.
AND i keep my alarm on ALLL day...even when we are home.
I should add that I am afraid of EVERYTHING so im very paranoid

Wow, I would have freaked!!
We have a large bay window where you can clearly see if our TV is on or if someone is home, so I feel bad/weird if I don't answer the door---when they can clearly see someone is home.
Last week, someone rang the bell at 8pm (DH was home, but in the basement) & it was some guy (w/ a badge) collecting signatures for some charity. I had DD in my arms as well.
See, now this is me also...We have a huge window, and my flat screen is hung above the fireplace, clear as day from outside...Because we live on such a secluded block, we don't have curtains (privacy curtains) on that window, so you can see someone was obviously home- Also my front door has side-lights so, I couldnt even "peek"

Same thing with my house but I still don't answer the door. I have windows on either side of the door and will ask them what they want as I peek through the window.

did you report it?
No, I didnt report it (yet anyway)..I think from now on I am definately not going to answer the door though, whether the person see's me or not...this is the first time that something like this ever rattled me so badly and I wasnt sure if I was overreacting or not....One thing on my side is that my neighbor is a police officer that works nights ( not that he neccessarily could have helped me, but it makes me more comfortable knowing he's there for some reason)

Ya know....I would maybe mention it to him. This way someone knows about it and he can sort of keep an eye/ear out for anything weird

That would definitely have creeped me out. I don't answer the door when I'm home alone with DS or by myself. With so may stories of home invasions and stuff like that, it's just not worth the risk to me.
