Do you feel bad buying things for yourself before the holidays?

I was out shopping today and got my DH new sneakers for Christmas....

But it was the buy one get one 1/2 off sale at Famouse Footwear ---- and I need sneakers too. Mine are over a year old. Chat Icon Chat Icon (I don't really buy stuff for myself, ever)

I contemplated buying a pair for myself for half off ---- found a pair that I really liked and they had them in my size, but in the end put them back on the shelf and only got kicks for my DH, because I felt guilty.

I just feel bad spending money on myself when we really don't have much at all...

heck no! I got myself 2 christmas gifts Chat Icon (I love authentic ethnic cookooks, so I bought 2 out of print books with great reviews, one for jamaican cooking, the other for ethiopean Chat Icon )

they should both arrive just in time for me to tuck them into my own stocking Chat Icon Chat Icon

(I would feel guilty spending lots of $$$, though.... under $50 is fine IMO)

Re: Do you feel bad buying things for yourself before the holidays?

Nope. I went to Fortunoff yesterday and spent $200 on myself. My birthday is Wednesday...so I felt justified and not guilty one bit. I have the same excuse every year!Chat Icon

Re: Do you feel bad buying things for yourself before the holidays?

DH and I have been trying really hard to limit our spending, so I haven't been shopping for myself at all in the past few months. This is easy for me if I just don't go anywhere near the stores. Once I'm in a store and see something I like that fits, I have a very hard time putting it down. I know DHs family is buying me mostly clothing for Chanukah (we're finally exchanging today), so I'm going to wait and see what I get and see what has to be returned/exchanged, and then fill in some of the gaps after that.

So, the point of my long-winded answer is, yes, I do feel guilty buying things for myself right now.

I'm the same as you Melissa. Every now & then I do buy for myself. I would of have taken advantage of the sneakers being 1/2 off.

Re: Do you feel bad buying things for yourself before the holidays?

Not really, so long as the things aren't too expensive. I know I'm going to be getting money for Christmas from several people, so I am just getting a head start on spending it. Chat Icon Plus some of the deals are way too good to pass up--I got leather boots for myself at Macy's yesterday that were a special door buster sale for $25 from $70, and I had a $10 off $25 coupon! So $15 for gorgeous leather boots!

Re: Do you feel bad buying things for yourself before the holidays?

Yeah, this year I didn't buy anything for myself for the same reason. It's hard, because there is so much cute stuff out there. I got my BIL's GF this cute vera bradley bag, and I wanted one too. But I decided to not buy one because I didn't NEED it.

No, I don't feel bad because I'm taking advantage of the sales and Friends&Family discounts (before they run out of my size for everything!)

I don't feel bad if I need it and I'm taking advantage of discounts.

I just bought myself a wool coat (don't have one), 2 pairs of jeans (I have two other pairs, one showing a lot of wear), a sweater (I really don't have a lot of l/s shirts) and some lounge pants (my current ones have a hole in the butt). There, I justified all my purchases. Chat Icon

Re: Do you feel bad buying things for yourself before the holidays?

I don't feel real bad either if it's something I need for myself. I also really don't spend a ton of $$$ on myself in general.

I went Christmas shopping on Monday with my husband at Roosevelt field and bought two pairs of boots at Payless. (BOGO too). He was kind of annoyed, but it was like $21.00 for both pair!

If I spent like $210 on one pair, I could see him being annoyed!

Re: Do you feel bad buying things for yourself before the holidays?

Seriously, I am a compulsive shopper, so that little twinge of guilt is ALWAYS there when I shop. However, it is only momentary and I move on.

If ever there is a time to buy yourself new sneakers, it is when they are 50% off! Besides, sneakers are something that you HAVE to replenish...you can fall or injure yourself in weak/worn out sneakers.

You should buy yourself some new stuff! You deserve it! You don't have to go crazy, but you can get some cute and inexpensive stuff in Old Navy or Target. Plus, all of the winter stuff will be going on sale VERY soon...think December 26th, so you can stock up on winter sweaters, coats and boots.
