Do you feel your TTC journey made you more spiritual or religious?
I am just curious to see how people feel about this. Ever since we started, I definitely became more religious-I light my Shabbat candles on Friday and pray a lot.
Anyone?

I was never overly religious, and I feel like this experience has probably made me even less so.

Now that you say it, I do think I have become more religious and spiritual. I pray all the time to God that he give DH and I the beautiful baby that we so want. After DH and I BD, I lay in bed and quietly talk to the swimmies and the eggie and relax myself to have it all come together.

Aww-I don't mean to pry, and you totally don't have to answer, but is it more frustration? Please don't take offense, because I believe everyone has a right to their own beliefs and opinions. I am rooting for you!

Re: Do you feel your TTC journey made you more spiritual or religious?
I was brought up Lutheran and used to be really religious (taught Sunday school and ran the youth group).
I've been agnostic for about 7 or 8 years now and I haven't had any desire to go back to church or to pray for help. It actually makes me feel more removed from religion.

You're not prying. I guess for me it's a sense of frustration. I feel funny praying for God to give me a baby, yet at the same time, I see myself (and many others on this board) as being so deserving of this special gift, yet we're having struggles. Now don't get me wrong, it's not like all of a sudden I've realized that the world is not fair so I've stopped having faith. It's just I guess I don't find comfort in religion/spirituality so it seems to have little meaning in my personal life. But if it can help other people in their lives, I think that's great. It's not like I'm anti-religion or anything like that.

I have to totally agree with this!! After my mother's death my faith was tested..I never really found my faith again after that time in my life..so as the pp said,,i don't feel comfort in religion right now. I haven't in a while. When I say "ill pray for you" Im actually praying to my mother.

Re: Do you feel your TTC journey made you more spiritual or religious?
I was religious before TTC and think that this past year has made me more religious, and also made me feel more confident in raising my children in the Catholic church.
I can't say I never get frustrated and even angry sometimes, as I feel I have had a lot of challenges thrown at me, but when I really examine what happened, I take it as a learning experience and see what I have gained in myself from whatever I have been through.
I was agnostic for years, and there were two times in my life that I spoke with people that really helped me understand God a bit more. One time I was speaking to a priest, and I asked why God never seems to answer my prayers. And he said, "Just because God does not say yes to everything you pray for, does not mean he is not answering your prayers. Like any parent, sometimes the answer is no."
And another time I was speaking to my DH, and I asked him if God never gives you more then you can handle, why do people kill themselves? And my husband said, "Just because he never gives you more then you can handle, does not mean the person who is given the challenge wants to handle it."
They may seem like insignificant conversations, but for some reason they just really stuck out to me.
I have to say, I do feel very guilty asking for a baby. But to be honest, I never really ask for anything, so i don't feel too bad

I def. pray a bit more. But DD just began religion classes, so I feel that has made more of an impact lately too.

Re: Do you feel your TTC journey made you more spiritual or religious?
Having my daughter christened has stirred my spirituality and belief in God.
Though I was christened in the Catholic church, I never received the sacraments of communion and confirmation. I wanted to raise our daughter with more religion than I had and that included going to church on Sunday's as a family and participating in the ministries of our church and really giving her a foundation of faith. I missed it growing up and I've seen folks who can get through unspeakable tragedies with the help of their faith and I wanted her to have that.
For me to really feel it as a family activity I made the decision to go through RCIA and become a "full" member of the catholic church.
I had been talking about it for years, but I think I picked the right time to go through the program, having the additional support of faith and the community of my church has helped me get through some really tough struggles as we TTC again.
I will say that when I pray, I pray for our family and express my hope that we have another little one. How could I not? However, I also pray for understanding for whatver life brings. My MC happened when I was only a couple months into the program. I went through an early crisis of faith but I came through (and I actually came through it with a deeper understand of God, though I won't go into that or else I will sound like I am witnessing and I am not that religious )
In any case, I think I can use all the help I can get in TTC and in life and getting back to the church has helped me.

Re: Do you feel your TTC journey made you more spiritual or religious?
I've always been religous, and this journey has definitely made me realize how important my faith is to me. When I miscarried 2 times back to back, my faith is one of the main things that helped me through that time.

Re: Do you feel your TTC journey made you more spiritual or religious?
I never was a believer and I doubt I'll ever find a need for religion in my life.
I find more comfort in the scientific discoveries that are brought to light every day

I just wanted to add-not only religion, but if you are not religious, has your journey changed you in any way?
