DD gets two 4oz bottles of water a day. We started giving them to her around 6 weeks because she was constipated.

ETA: Our ped told us to give her the water.

Unless there is a reason (i.e. constipation) it really isn't necessary to give DC water until they are older.

DS started getting sippy cups with water around 9 months or so, but really started drinking it recently at 11 months.

We've never given DD water with a "purpose" aside from trying out her sippy cup.

ETA: DD is 9 1/2 mos.

I dave my DD water in a sippy cup around 12 months, and usually give her about 4 oz. Now I'll give her water in a bottle (at night) so if she gets thirsty she can drink that vs. the milk (since they say milk can rot the teeth if left sitting in themouth overnight). The only thing is that I use a level 1 or 2 nipple with the bottle b/c the water is still too thin of a liquid for her (and she drinks it so quickly).l

I think I started around 1 year. That is the point where I started giving him OJ and juices so everything needed to be totally watered down. After that I decided to give him plain water rather than alot of juice and he loves it.

My pediatrician said regular intake of water should begin around 6 months of age. He said the goal should be 4-6 oz a day. At this point my DS is not going to drink that much water from a sippy cup. My Ped said it is fine for him to get his water from making powdered formula. I have been using RTF, but now I am going to make 1-2 bottles a day with powdered formula so my DS gets enogh water. I also put some water in a sippy cup each day and let him experiment with it. At this point he probably drinks less than 1/2 an oz. from his sippy cup.
