Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
And if so, what do expect to get out if it? One big vacation of lots if smaller ones? I just mentally roughly calculated what I spent this year on trips and it's a big number. But I also took 4 week long trips, 1 for five days and 5 overnighters/weekends. That said, my friend goes to Beaches every year and spends more on a week then I spend in a year. How do you allocate your vacation funds?

Re: Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
Our vacation budget shrinks every year since expenses keep going up! This year we did one big trip and skipped all the smaller trips we would normally do (great wolf, hershey, etc). I don't like road trips so our vacations are flights only, gets too expensive

We tend to go cheaper on vacays so that we can have more throughout the year. For ex, not getting a balcony on a cruise so we can take a weekend vacation at another time. I don't know for sure how much we spend but we rather go away on average 4x a year as opposed to having 1 big trip.

Re: Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
We do one big trip once a year usually during off peak season. Then we do 2 long weekend trips during the summer. I get a decent bonus so that's the money we use for our trips.

Re: Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
Before DS we would try to go on a big trip (like a cruise) each year but now we just do Myrtle Beach every year since its a cheaper vacation for us. I'm disappointed that I probably won't be able to go this year though

Re: Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
Not really, but our pattern is that every other year we do a big trip and the years in between are smaller, shorter trips.
2010 - San Francisco, Napa, Vegas, Grand Canyon...ten days long 2011 - short weekend trips to Boston and a road trip to see PJ play in Wisconsin 2012 - Bangladesh and Istanbul for two weeks 2013 - I did a trip to see PJ in Chicago and we visited my family down south 2014 - Ireland and Amsterdam
So I guess we'll do another big trip in 2016.
Right now we are thinking of Maine, PA or somewhere upstate for a week in the summer for next year.

Re: Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
We usually do one smallish trip (1 week beach vacay) and a 2-3 week larger trip overseas.

We do a week in Cape Cod every July with extended family. We also try to do 1-2 "just us" vacations with our two kids. They are shorter trips- 3-4 nights, and are typically things like Disney, Lancaster, the Maine coast. We had wanted to do the caribbean this year, but with twins coming in March we will probably wait until 2016 for that trip.

Re: Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
We don't--we usually go on 1 week log trip, but this year we ended up with a lot of little things.
March -overnight out east April -DH tagged along with me to a business trip to Philly (minimal costs ) May-6 nights Charleston & Savannah July-1 night in CT for a wedding October, 4 nights in lake Placid for our anniversary November-1 night out east December - 2 nights in Chicago ( DH only) for a family event.

That is seriously incredible! How do you guys manage getting so much time off of work?
ETA: To answer the original question... We wing it. We haven't been taking vacations much, but recently took a cruise in July and just booked Disney in June. We try to budget based on the location we choose. Disney is going to cost us $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, so I doubt we are going anywhere other than that in 2015.

I teach dance and I follow the school calendar. I'm also off on Fridays and I'm off all summer. For February break my sister and I took our kids to AC for the week. For spring break my DH took off and we went to Mrytle Beach with the kids. In June he took off again and we went to Florida for a week. In early July my sister and I took the kids to Williamsburg for a week. The end of July DH and I went to Aruba for our 10 yr anniversary, but DH only took off 3 days. Then the rest of the trips were either 1-2 nights over the weekend, so no time off. The only trip we payed for outright was Aruba. All the other trips were deals through our timeshare. I'm kind of an expert a working their system. And the only trip we flew to was Florida. I'm able to get a lot of bang for our buck.

Re: Do you have a yearly vacation budget?
We usually take a longer vacation and one weekend vacation. My in laws have a friend with a time share and we have used it for the past few years. So we are able to do that too.
