Do you have flood insurance - even if you aren't in a flood zone?
Just wondering how many pay for flood insurance ? Homeowners insurance doesnt cover any flood claims. Rain flood, overflow of lakes/rivers etc are not covered.
DH and I were discussing renewing ours today. He felt it was a waste of $. It was less than $400 for the year, so I just went ahead and renewed it. We dont live in a flood zone, but a few years ago we had a terrible rain storm, and the rain came up almost to our front door in only 4 hours of rain. We have a lake near us too, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

We have it even though we are not required to. We are only 4 houses in from the water (south shore) so I feel like it's only a matter of time before we are required to have it. For $400 a year, it's peace of mind.

We added it when they were talking about redistricting the flood zones. If you already had it you were grandfathered in at the lower rate but if you didn't have it and the new flood zones dicated that you needed it you'd pay a higher rate. I would rather be covered instead of sorry after the fact.
