Do you have the same political affiliation as your parents?

My mom and I have very similar political views (both very liberal). My father, on the other hand, is a die hard Republican and seems to be getting more and more conservative as he ages (although he did not vote Trump, but instead wrote in Paul Ryan, who he loves).

My husband and I are both liberal, so I can say that I hope my children grow up with similar political values. I know my dad is very disappointed that none of his children are conservatives like him.

Yes, pretty much. My mom is liberal and my dad is, but he can vote independent at times (voted for Perot).

I believe both of them have voted R at one time or another.

But not this election.

My mom is independent but leans more right. My dad is Republican. The same man who said, "Never discuss politics with friends or strangers" was also the man who told me, my first ever time voting, "You can vote for whoever you want to honey, except for Chuck Schumer because he's an idiot."

YEP. Looooong line of liberals. My grandfather worked for the Liberal party of Canada. My brother is one of the only people who I think falls left of me.

In laws, too. I got lucky. They are among the few upper middle class Jews on LI who are very liberal.

I use to. My dad use to be a huge Obama supporter and mostly a liberal Democrat. All of a sudden he's gone Trump stupid. He's become impossible and sounds ridiculous. We don't talk politics anymore, I just want to strangle him. LOL My mom hates Trump so we're cool politically. LOL

Yes. I'm more left than them and there are a couple of issues we disagree on, but overall our affiliations are similar.

My dad was a union Democrat which seems to be dying out these days. He would have been appalled by Trump. My mother is also pretty liberal and always has been.

My parents are Republican, but I do not think either of them have any idea what it means. Their parents were Republicans so they are Republicans. They both voted for Trump. Again, I do not think they have any idea what he stands for and just voted for him because he was the Republican candidate.

My siblings are Republicans and also voted for Trump.

I am registered Republican, but consider myself more liberal than conservative these days (especially on social issues, science, and education). I voted for Hillary.

Yes - with the exception of two in-laws on my brother's side, we're all basicaly Democrats (some are moderate others are left wings like me).

My mom and my siblings are all very liberal, my father not so much. He's very conservative and even he thought Trump was a bad idea. But he didn't think Hilary was worth a damn either. Not sure how he voted actually as it's a hot button topic since he's strongly outnumbered.

ETA: My DH is a lot more conservative than I am, as I'm sure his father is, but his mother is fairly middle of the road.

Yes. and both of my parents loathe Donald Trump, as does my grandmother. The rest of my family seems to think he walks on water though

No. My parents are Republicans, voted for Trump (though they are open about their regrets on that). I have always been Liberal. My father is actually very involved in the Republican Party on LI and asked me to change my party affiliation years ago, "just in case." I refused to do so.

Sort of. My mom is an idiot, she understands nothing and tries to talk about politics by repeating what my dad says and usually sounds like an idiot. My dad, God rest his soul, has never said he had an affiliation, bc he picked who he liked each time, and it was mainly republicans, he had a very hard time this past election and said he was voting for Bernie, but he passed in July. My dad and I are very similar in terms or policies, and I'm only 30, so haven't gotten to vote too many times yet, but had only voted republican till this year.

My parents are independents voted for Obama twice but than went Trump. We cannot be further apart right now! My dad calls me a Liberal now like it's a curse word

#2 when he was alive we disagreed on basics but he voted similarly to me on some things and not on others. He raised me to believe in what's right but to always vote on facts. We would argue from BOTH sides. you must ALWAYS accept the other side has valid points. Find them, agree with those points and argue FOR those points before you vote AGAINST that person, point or argument. It was the idea of knowing your enemy. To just disagree because others say so is weak, foolish and shows you are incapable of independence.

So no we did not have the same political views because that would be insane. He was religious and pro life. I was an atheist pro choice. I did however convince him to become pro choice at one point - at least in concept. Yeah me! Both of us are pro military. He had a different point of view on illegal immigrants than I did but we both wanted to find a solution. We both disagreed with ACA but for entirely different reasons. hahaha

Makes me miss him just thinking about it.

We talked every single day. Always our daily calls. So we'd argue every thing or agree on every topic. Oh how I miss him!

My bio host .. I wish she was dead so I don't care. She's in Florida and changed her name to Zima so really what can we say? Nothing positive to be sure.

My father passed away but I think that if he were still alive we would have very similar views to mind. My mother is so far right that it's borderline crazy, so I would say no, we do not share the same views.

No. My parents are moderate Republicans, I tend to lean further left. But we don't talk about politics at all, ever.

My Mom was a registered republican until she moved in 2006 and switched to democrat. She is now pretty left. I am probably a little further left than she is. My Dad was a republican but he passed a long time ago. He was very smart and well read and I like to believe he would've changed like my Mom did, but who knows. It's something I think about often.

My inlaws are all Trump supporters, along with my DH.

My mom is Conservative. My dad is deceased now but he was Conservative as well. My sister and I are both Democrats. DH & his brother are Democrats like their mom. My FIL is Conservative.

I love my mother but I can't talk about politics with her. She thinks Liberals are the devil and I can't get past her narrow-mindedness. My DH and FIL can't be in the same room without arguing over politics, especially in these Trump times.

They are both registered democrats. My dad is very much into politics (lawyer, political science major). My mom, not so much. Her SO is a republican and votes republican because he sticks with his party, even if he disagrees with them because guns, so she doesn't really discuss it too much to keep the peace. My paternal grandfather is very into politics and is as socialist as they come. Even at 87 years old, he's very involved, goes to rallies and protests.

DH's parents are completely ignorant when it comes to politics. They have never voted for president and are not even registered to vote. But they're basically racist and hated obama because he was black and probably Muslim. That's more so my fil but my mil just goes along with it. DH is pretty liberal but doesn't really care for politics.

My father is an independent , my mother is a traditional democrat , I consider myself a centrist / independent leaning towards the democratic side of things on many issues ( but not all) I'd say I'm more aligned with my mother , but there are certain issues I agree with my father in too. so, over all, we aren't too far apart in our belief system but we definitely vary on some issues.

My dad and I do. I drive him nuts with my ride home from work calls where I complain about whatever ridiculousness has gone on that day. And he agrees with me - though he keeps telling me to relax and we've had other terrible presidents and we will get through this.
My mom passed away 16 years ago - before I was as engaged in politics. But I never spoke to her much about it. I've asked my dad and he said she was always opposite him - that they'd cancel each other out every year. But - even though I know she hated Bill, I think that was in large part because he was personally scuzzy. Even though my dad said she'd vote opposite him, I feel fairly confident that she would have NEVER voted for our current liar-in-chief. She was pretty liberal socially - very strong supporter of women's rights and my dad says completely pro-choice though I don't remember discussing it with her. I think it's weird now that she and I never really talked about it.
