I usually have my pool closed by the same guy that the previous owners of the house used. This year I had to purchase a new cover and the company I bought the cover from will close the pool as "bonus" included with the purchase. In this type of situation, do you contact your regular service person to let them know why you are not calling them this year? I will use the usual guy next year to open the pool, so it's not like I will never use him again.

I would say no, unless you have an appointment already scheduled.

I worked in a service business. Before I worked there, I would not have called.
But we had similar situations with regular customers, who told us why they wouldn't be using our service this time, but they will be back. The owner and service people did take pride in how they serviced/ treated customers. This way they aren't wondering what went wrong. It was just a nice thing for the customer to do, and to hear it on our part.

(But no, it is not really necessary)

I would let him know especially if you've been using him all this time. be honest. If the tables were turned I'm sure you would want to know and not wonder.

you don't HAVE to tell him, but i think it would be a considerate thing to do. so he knows he didn't lose your business forever and/or he knows to expect your business next season.

If I planned to use them in the future and had a good relationship I would tell them I got a freebie so thats why I didn't do it this year
