I can't wait to have a house so that we wouldn't have to cover ours up! we live in a really small apt and that's where all the junk ends up. so I keep it covered to protect it.

Only when we're going to use it.
If I'm going to place decorative objects on the table, I put adhesive felt to the bottoms so that they don't scratch the tabletop.
I do that on my coffe table.
I have a table cloth with a runner over it, b/c I don't like my dining table.
