Do you know how to swim?

I do - very well, I might add.

I always take it for granted, that everyone knows how. I grew up with a pool, so I've been swimming since I was a baby. But I know there are a lot of adults (my mom being one of them) that don't know how.

Not everyone is an of course, though. I do, always had a pool, but many, many people don't know how. My MIL is one.

I also grew up with a pool and could swim before I could walk. I am a very strong swimmer.

Its funny, to graduate my college we had to pass a swim test. It never occurred to me that at 21, there were some people out there who couldn't swim.

Re: Do you know how to swim?

I'm a pretty strong swimmer and I really enjoy the water- but I also grew up with a pool. My mom didn't know how to swim until she was an adult and my parents bought a house with apool She actually ready books and them took classes at the YWCA. She's not a very strong swimmer at all, but she can do it.

Re: Do you know how to swim?

Yes...My grandma forced my mom to put me in lessons when I was younger & spending the summers in Maine on th lake. It is a VERY good thing to know how to do, but like many of you have said, I know plenty of people that don't know how to including my MIL

I'm always surprised when people don't know how to swin. We got a small aboveground pool when I was 7, but I ahd been to the beach before then. No one even taught me hw to swim, you juat could NOT get me out of the water, since I was a baby, whether it was a pool, the beach, etc.

No, I can't. But I can get around in 12 feet of water. I just never formally learned via lessons.

Re: Do you know how to swim?

Ok girls, I'm the minority here...I cant swim! Neither can any of my sisters. DH can't swim either and neither can his brother or sister. Oddly enough though, both sets of our parents can swim like fish!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Neither of us had a pool growing up.

Re: Do you know how to swim?

Yes, though I am not the stronger swimmer. DH doesn't know at all, he won't leave the walls of the pool even in the shallow end (I keep telling him that if he feels like he is drowning, he can just stand up Chat Icon ).

Re: Do you know how to swim?

I can float and I can tread water, but I never realy learned how to swim.

I'm not a big fan of being under water (pool, ocean, bathtub, doesn't matter) so I never really wanted to learn.

And public pools (especially indoor ones)gross me out so I would have to have private lessons at my IL's pool. Chat Icon
