Pro- it helps them sleep -studies show that it may help prevent SIDS
Con-Mommy or Daddy has to run into DC's room every hour to "pop the cork" back into DC's mouth when it falls out...

excuse me are you being judgemental ?????
Im such a binky mom that Im totally putting off the weaning of my little one from the binky.
my other boys were weaned at 13 and 15months... my little one is already 17months.. he looks so darn cute with it, and the sucking motion when it moves melts my heart so I think Ihave to wean MYSELF from my son with the binky

YAYYY for the binky !!! and dont let the non-binky moms sway you! look at his adorable face with the binky, and how comforting it is, and how he KNOWS when he has that binky in his mouth, and just has this sense of ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
im a little overtired too, im not that obsessed with it.

I wasn't judging... The fainting smilie was me fainting because I am often up in the middle of the night giving DD her paci back to her (even if it's in her hand, she can't seem to find her mouth in the dark... ) Luckily, she's getting better at figuring it out herself, but she still needs me to find her pacis for her once in a while (she also throws them out of the crib intentionally.... I can hear it on the monitor.... )
BTW, she's now 19 months, and only uses it at night. DS was weaned cold-turkey (cold-binky? ) at around 18 months.
ETA: However, you did spell "judgmental" incorrectly...

Re: do you let your dc sleep w/a pacifier in their mouth?
Totally!
It helps prevent SIDS, for one. Also, I think it is the only reason he sleeps through the night. If I took it away he would probably still want nighttime feedings.
I don't really feel like there are any cons, for now. When he gets too big for it, he might take a few nights to get used to not having it, but I feel ike the pros outweigh that one con by a longshot.

Re: do you let your dc sleep w/a pacifier in their mouth?
Fo now, yes. She is 4 months old. We do have to pop it back in once or twice a night but it's not that big of a deal and I have heard it helps prevent sids. We are going to try getting rid of it completely by 14 months.

Re: do you let your dc sleep w/a pacifier in their mouth?
DS loves it...but I am slowly weaning it away (esp at night) since my dr told me it adds to his ear infections ---basically fluids keep getting sucked back

Re: do you let your dc sleep w/a pacifier in their mouth?
Yes, he only gets it to sleep, never when he's awake. He usually spits it out of his mouth about 5 min after he falls asleep and he'll go through the sucking motions without it, which is so cute to watch. Sometimes he'll wake up in the of the night and go right back to sleep, other times I have to run in and give it back to him if he can't find it and his eyes close before it even touches his lips--jsut the sight of it works! He's 9 months now and I want to be rid of it by a year so I don't have to get up in the middle of the night for it anymore!

Totally agree! She is surrounded by about 10 of them in her crib in case it falls out during the night. . Sometimes she spits it out, and other times she wakes up and finds one and puts herself right down. That's a HUGE pro to me so I can get my zzzzzzzzzz's.

Nope, We never gave DS a binky. Our ped didn't recommend it. I'm glad we didn't becaseu now we don't have to worry about weaning him off it.

Re: do you let your dc sleep w/a pacifier in their mouth?
I let my ds sleep with his pacifier it actually helps him fall a sleep. However if it falls out he does not wake up from it. IMO the only problem I see with giving my ds the pacifier is that I will eventually have to take it away.
