Do you like receiving a giftcard as a gift?

I love getting giftcards! I much rather buy something for myself than have someone buy me something that I don't really want or need - which is usually the case.

On the other hand, my mother doesn't like them so much - especially when they are from me. She almost gets like offended. She feels it is very impersonal.

Personally I love them. I'd much rather go myself and pick out something I will like rather than either getting something I hate/doesn't fit and having to go return it.

Honestly no I don't.

I rarely give gift cards. I don't mind looking for a gift for someone. If they don't like it, they can return it, but I like knowing at least I tried.

I do BUT I always say that I don't want to waste them and save them and then when I want to use them they are expired I like gift cards when there is NO EXPIRATION DATE!

It depends. I don't mind when it's for a store that you know I like and just wanted to make sure I'd get exactly what I wanted. I especially love if the person has put a little something with it that shows they were thinking about me. It could be a silly little jokey item to make me smile, but I like knowing that some effort was put into it.

Just a regular old Visa gift card, no. I feel like there was absolutely no thought put into the gift and I get insulted since I really try to get gifts that the reciepent wants or needs.

This year my dad gave me a Visa gift card for my birthday in a card that had some stupid joke about farting. Gee thanks for spending 30 seconds on me.

With my family we usually give gift cards. Everyone is happy. I would rather let them buy something for themselves than me buy something they didnt want

I try not to give giftcards as gifts unless I really can't think of something the person would like or they are super picky.

Receiving - I don't mind. Last year two of my girlfriends pooled their $ and got me a $100 giftcard from AT Loft for Xmas/bday. I loved it because we were planning the wedding and I was not shopping unless it was wedding related. So I got to use the $100 card and get some clothes in the spring!!

This year I'd be happy with anything but I'd love to open an actual gift.

not really.

I mean, it's a gift, and I am grateful and will take it

but I just love the anticipation of finding a wrapped gift and opening it to see what's inside.

I love getting them.

In most instances, though, I hate giving them. I try to put more thought into it than just a gift card -- but at the same time, I LOVE getting them.

I love them, especially for resteraunts. DH almost never go out for dinner unless we have a GC.

ETA: The one time of year I don't like to get retail GC is now. After Christmas all the stores are picked through!

In one way yes.... No mistakes, and I can get what I want...

The other way - no... I feel like the person didn't try to find a gift for me and took the easy way out.

Yup!!! That way, I can enjoy shopping in the spring without any guilt!!!
